I try simming games a bunch because I just want to get to the NHL and get started on my real career, but if I sim it says "I've been watching you closely lately and it seems like you're just going through the motions out there. We need you to put your heart in the game more." Then if you keep simming you get demoted down lines.

Yeah I'm leading the WHL in goals, points PIMS, hits, yet playing on the second line because I simmed a few games. Good work coach.

the deal with simming is so you cant just coast through like that.
play the last minute of the 3rd period everytime you get your second warning or so

When you start your career you can choose between authentic and classic.
Classic you can have anywhere from 4 to 20 min periods and your on the ice for pretty much the whole game.
Authentic it's 20 min but you play your shifts like a real game.
You could also just play the 3rd period. Sim the game and sim the first 2 periods and intervene in the third. Even on authentic a game should only take 10 to 15 mins. If you want, I did this. I intervened in the third, played till I got 2 points and then quit. The game counted and it took 2 to 3 mins a game. Finished a season on a Saturday in 4 hours and still finished the season with 284 points
I also, to keep the coach off my back, play one game then sim one game. Or I play one game and sim 2. That way I'm only really playing 40 or less games.

When playing Be A GM, is there a way to tell which of your unsigned prospects you might lose if you don't sign? For instance, you can keep some guys unsigned and they stay in junior without a pro contract, but how do I know which ones I may lose when July 1st rolls around?

I think you can check by opening up their abilities/stats. I think it gives you draft position and year.

But how long can you keep them unsigned? Three years after their draft?

i HATE this part of be a gm.
I believe you have 2 years after drafting before you lose them.
Not sure why they don't put in warnings on players that you will lose if they go unsigned.

I also wish they'd remind you that you don't need to signed all your unsigned players.
My AHL team is packed full of players, and it's a pain in the ass to give them all icetime, especially when some of them have high potential but currently aren't very good.
Oh well, lesson learned I guess.

nhl 12 is boring, well i guess the gm mode is boring since it's the same thing for years now.
my year is basically:
draft, sign last year's picks, let my kids play inj preseason, set my initial nhl/ahl lines then simply handle EVERY frigin single injury that happens, because the assistant coach thing is ######ed. that's about 90% of be a gm. i dont' like playing all the games, prefer simming thru, but man is it boring.
ea's game has become so stale. like even the game play it's boring. i usually play nhl till the summer, but i am barely 2 months in, and i don't have any urge to play it anymore.

I usually played 1 game and simmed 3. What I have noticed is that the max number of games you can sim at a time in 4 and after the 5th sim game you get a warning.

I focus mostly on Be a GM as well.. but I play probably 95% of the games. I keep bumping up the difficulty (moreso tweaking the sliders than anything)... at a point where my play's pretty even with the AI... so it adds some challenge without just being frustrating completely outshooting the opposition or something. The challenge is what makes it fun for me. Though I do think their difficulty settings need some adjustment. Really hard to even up the gameplay without playing with the sliders.

I've noticed their is a slider called attribute effects I think. And if you turn that all the way up then a players attributes actually mean something. All players don't play the same. I found anyways.

Has anybody had the game suddenly have you playing out of position in BAP?
In the middle of several games it's put my LW sniper on defense for a bunch of shift, really weird when it happens.
Also the only thing worse than playing for the oilers in BAP is getting blown out by the Canucks.

That happened when we lost 4 forwards to injury in one game, I was suddenly playing 3rd line center.
And the only thing worse is that my Oilers just eliminated the Canucks and are in the Stanley Cup finals against the Leafs, so no matter what happens my defenseman has already typed up the suicide note.

Weird that those 2 teams are in the final as it looked that way in the beginning of this year.
On a side note, someone posted above that iggy retires after this year in be a gm mode. Has this happened to anyone else?

It's conclusive proof that the Oilers coaching staff sucks, the leagues leading scorer gets no PP time, and then they put me on defence. Let's just say I'm not very defensive.
At least the smartened up and put me back on the first line.
