Especially considering that it's being announced after a 5 month span of the best weather the construction industry could hope for.
I'm very interested to hear what the explanation is.

$35 million on a $1.4 billion project, which gives some perspective. Part of the problem is that the contingency is only roughly 2%, whereas it should have been about a standard 8-9% - but that $60m was used up by the trench at 45th street.

ok so the orginal plan was to have the LRT line up bowtrail, but was "detrailed" because of the church and all it's members fighting to save their beloved place of worship....So it was moved to 17th ave at a higher cost, and the funny thing is the Church is now up for sale?

There hasn't been a plan to put the WLRT up Bow Trail in decades.

Even if you look at the original 1983 functional study and proposed alignment, it has it going up Bow and cutting over to 17th Ave under Westbrook. (They even have the underground station listed).
Obviously they had potential Bow alignments looked at but, no, we don't know what you're talking about.
I too am pretty shocked at the delay. 4 months is a lot on a project that many (including myself) thought would certainly open on-time or potentially early. Isn't this going to ding SNC/SLG pretty hard with overage penalties?

Well, that delay is a giant kick in the nuts! Let's hope there's only one delay, and not numerous delays like the construction of a certain bridge...

Huge disappointment. I was looking forward to sailing into downtown this time next year.

Picking a completion date for a project of this scale is a bit of guess work. There's only so much you can predict before actually getting in the ground.
It's not just public projects that end up late - take a look at The Bow - it was supposed to originally be fully occupied by now.
Surely it's a disappointment, but in the grand scheme of things, is it a big deal?

Probably not.
I live a block away from both Shaganappi and Westbrook stations. Every day I have to ride a bus is another day I risk dying from asphyxiation.

Man, the Sunalta and Shaganappi Stations, and elements of the new Bow Trail pedestrian bridge are hella ugly. Not a huge fan of them at all. Especially Sunalta - the design of that station, with the staircase and the attached pedestrian bridge look terrible IMO - these elements are completely out of sync with each other.

^Shaganappi is fairly meh. Ped bridge is okay, eye catching though. I really like how Sunalta Station turned out. Depending on the sky and/or how the sun hits the roof, it can look quite striking.

I will agree with Muta, it looks pieced together. I'm crossing fingers that the finished product makes it look better, but as it stands, it looks like someone took some Duplo blocks and stuck an oversized copper-wire on top as dressing. And that pedestrian bridge attached to it is brutal.

Not a fan of the copper look. Plus, it looks cheap. The flow of the design is completely out of sync. But again, thats just my opinion.

Pretty tough to have a meaningful opinion if you've never seen it in person and are just looking at a few in-progress photos
