Why would no places accept them? If they accept $100's period they have to accept the new bill.

Just don't put the new $100 bill into a change machine and you'll be OK

Man, the change machine at school won't take my 50 peso bill which is pretty much the same material, I wonder how long it'll take before they replace all of them with machines that will take the new ones?

That might be because the peso is worthless. And worse yet, Mexican.

On the day the current $10 notes came out about a decade ago, I went to the bank and got a few of them and flashed them around everywhere I went all day. I was Mr. Popular and I'm pretty sure all the girls wanted to have sex with me.

Incidentally--and now I'm just showing off--I got this as a gift earlier this week.
Sorry ladies, I'm taken.

Who else is going to the bank on Monday and taking all their money out in the new $100 bills?
Cause I am.

It seems like a lot of places have signs up saying they won't accept hundred dollar bills. It really doesn't affect me as I don't usually have them anyway, but I know I've seen these signs. Maybe its after a rash of counterfeits though.

I thought that was generally the older style. I've only seen the odd place that won't take the current ones.

It's because stores don't like to have cash on hand, as such they don't want to be giving away all their smaller bils, the small amount of cash they have on hand to someone with a $100.00.
$5.00 and $10.00 bills are the most frequently counterfeited. Not $100's.
If my above reply was totally off what you're referring to I apologize.

I would have thought it was the $20s. Years ago when I was in retail that's primarily what we saw.
Wouldn't 5s and 10s have too little risk vs reward?
- - - edit - - -
A google search found that in 2010 $100s and $20s were by far the most counterfeitted. Seems to normally be the trend.

Is it legal for a store to not accept 100 dollar bills? I guess it's a dumb question as it happens everywhere but since when can stores/retailers not accept legal tender?

I remember when there used to be $1000 bills. Seems kind of crazy now to have that much money in one single bill. I actually had a couple briefly while taking cash from one bank to another because I was too cheap to pay for a draft and I didn't have cheques for that particular account. Nice looking bill, actually. Had colourful birds on it if I remember correctly.

I was wondering the same thing. I once made a fuss about this bill being 'legal tender' and the store not having the right to refuse it. Manager came out and said they should take it.

Can't see why not. No different than not accepting debit/credit I would think.

The store has the right to refuse to accept your business, that's the way I look at it, not a smart idea mind you. I know from working in small businesses that quite often it's difficult to change a 100 especially near the beginning of the day.

Then say you can't change a 100. Most times they'll say to me that they won't take it because there is a bigger chance it is counterfeit.

I do say that, I would never say to a customer that I suspect them of having counterfeit money, you're just asking for trouble doing that.
