You heard wrong, THE DION is the one who made Ralph issue those cheques, he doesn't need the measley $400 per leg.

I have a MC with a $5000 limit, a VISA with a $8000 limit and a LOC with a $10,000 limit. Total amount owing?
$0
I don't spend what I don't have. In fact, I've had a credit card for 8 years and have paid $0 in interes in my life. I actually profit. I got my cheque for my cash back Platinum card yesterday and the cheque was for $265.38

Did anybody catch CFCN news last night? Apparently they were going to show a list of retailers who are offering to give you more for your cheque if you use it on a purchase with them.
Edit: I know the Brick is giving an extra $400 if you use it towards a furnature purchase of $2000 or more.

As someone pointed out to me in a long-ago thread, you've actually paid indirectly for the convenience of having a credit card through the retailers' jacked-up prices. They pay the CC companies, and you pay for the privilege.
Of course, you would still have paid extra even using cash, but the point is that CCs are not *totally* free, even if used correctly.
Edit...
To make this post slightly on-topic, I haven't received mine yet, but when I do, all it does is allow me to pay off my student debts about 20 days sooner. So I guess I'm now targeting November 10 instead of Nov 30.

This really shows how much fat the Brick's prices have on them. So if you are buying 2000 bucks worth of stuff there they are making over 400 bucks over their costs.
