WTB: Someone to unlock a Rogers iPhone 4

Hey all,

I have a Rogers locked, iPphone 4. iOS 5.

I know Rogers would have helped me unlock it, but there's a story to go with it. I got a Telus phone because I work in the middle of nowhere and Telus works there and Rogers doesn't, and ported my old Rogers number to my new Telus account. This means that Rogers immediately dropped me as a client and billed me the buy-out price remaining on my contract. I asked them to unlock the phone, because I am no longer bound by contract with them (and I am even willing to pay their fee) but they won't because I am not a current customer.

I want to unlock it so my gf can use it on the Bell network...

So what are my options? Does anyone know of a store that'll do this for me?

I've called a few places, but they say they can't do it because it's iOS 5. Any tips?

Unlikely that it can be currently unlocked if it is on IOS 5. It will all depend on what the modem firmware is at? Check into that and let me know what firmware it is then I can let you know if it can be unlocked or not. My Iphone 4 is on IOS 5 but my modem firmware is 01.59.00 but I have been very careful to make sure when I upgrade and jailbreak my phone to ensure that the firmware didn't get updated.

Flames Fan hit it on the head; there are 2 things being updated by Apple constantly; the OS version, and the modem firmware version.

Only the very first versions of iPhone 4 firmware can be unlocked, so if you've upgraded to the latest iOS releases as you've owned the phone, it likely can't be unlocked since the modem firmware is likely too new (and non-unlockable)

Avoid using something called a Gevey Sim. TBQH Your best bet is selling your phone and buying one for the right carrier.

The way it works...is rather sketch. There are automatic ones, and manual ones, but the premise is it dials the emergency service (112) and then hangs up, and redials the number you want to call. Automatic ones you don't do anything, it does it by itself, but the manual ones you dial then hang up.

(I believe this is illegal!)

Yup, unfortunately with that firmware you are SOL for now. As suggested selling it and buying one with the carrier you plan to use or finding an unlocked one are good alternative options.
