Anyone been to Dallas for a game?
We are going for the February 16th game (another one to tick off my bucket list). Anyone else ever been and can give hints and advice? Even better, anyone actually going from Calgary?

I went to a game last year, a game not involving the Flames.
We stayed at the Fairmont Dallas, a really nice hotel for just over $100/night, and it's easily within walking distance of the arena.
We bought lower-bowl seats off stubhub... I recommend getting platinum level seats because it allows you access to parts of the arena the commoners aren't getting into. We paid well-below face value for the tickets on stubhub, it was a Saturday night game vs. Buffalo (their Stanley Cup rivals), but the Texas Rangers were playing a World Series game that night as well.
You could probably get scalper tickets outside the arena for good value as well, but personally, I prefer to have the ticket situation settled before I fly down just for peace-of-mind.
It's a gorgeous arena and the fans are actually pretty into it. The night we were there, it was a crowd of about 10k, but they were an enthusiastic bunch. Lots of Sabre fans were there though. The Stars won 4-0, so the Sabre fans didn't have a whole lot to make noise about.
For after the game, there are a bunch of restaurants and bars on the way back towards the Fairmont Dallas, so that's nice too. We ate at a bar in the arena before the game, from what I recall that was decent too, though clearly not a totally memorable dining experience.

I just moved to Houston and will most definitely be making the drive up to Dallas for this game. There are a few other Calgarians in my office that will be joining me as well.
Not sure if you would be interested, but I can only imagine we are going to park ourselves in some fine establishment before the game for drinks, and it would be great to meet some other fellow cp'ers while there!

For the record , my buddies and I are going to dallas this weekend for a bachelor party. We booked the sheraton downtown from hotwire at 58 bucks a night. Its like 1.6 miles from the arena. They have a train system you can take to right outside the arena.
As for tickets, I have gone to few Flames games in Dallas. I am from Oklahoma city so its a 2.5 hr drive. I usually buy tickets off Craigslist. I have bought seats 6 rows off the ice on the sides for 60 bucks for 2 tickets before. Tix can be had for cheap. The best part of Dallas games is the ice girls and buy a souvenir cup for 5 bucks and get unlimited soda refills all game!!!
I hope you have fun! Go Flames GO!
P.S. I will be at the Feb 16th game .

Yup. It was awesome, you will enjoy it. Note worthy, their washrooms are twice the size and are everywhere, so no 15 minute lineup during intermission. Wear your jersey, I wore mine and expected to get a few comments. Only time was when a 10 year old kid wearing an Oilers jersey beeked me.

and you get the respectful slight head nods from other Flames fans in jerseys. Its unspoken and subtle but when you get the nod you know you got backup as you venture deeper in enemy territory wearing your colors proudly. Plus you usually only get beeked if the Flames lose. btw Did the 10 yr old kid have a mullet?

Would probably be worth talking to Flashpoint. I think he's lived in Dallas for a while.

Thanks guys for all the comments. I'll PM you Fobulous and we will set something up! Of course we will be donning our Flaming C's - my better half will be wearing his Nystrom and from the way Eric is playing a few Dallas fans may give a knowing nod as well!

With your boys? Attend a classy facility called Silver City afterwards. Fun will be had by all.

Just bumping this thread as the trip is getting closer. We have seats right behind the Flames bench so I will, sadly, be waving numerous different signs throughout the game. Any (funny) ideas will be appreciated. At the moment I only have two ideas. One, obviously, is 'Go Flames Go' and my other is 'Alberta Beef is Better'.

My advice - after the game head straight to New Orleans for Mardi Gras.

My advice is locate the restaurant called Fogo De Chao... You don't get the full experience if you don't eat yourself into a meat coma.

I'm from Alberta and the sad truth is that its not better. The Alberta Beef commission has done a great job with their propaganda machine.

A lot of "Texas Beef" comes from Alberta. Since only part of the processing needs to be done in state to make the claim, cattle are slaughtered here and brought to processing plants south of the border.

I'll see you there. I'm in 324 Row A, seat 14. The dude in the 04 Yelle jersey.
Would love to buy you a beer.
Lots of downtown hotels are within walking distance of the AAC. I also recommend the Fairmont, as it was recently renovated, and treated me well last August (anniversary staycation).
Hard Rock Cafe can be fun if you like rock and roll and have additional time. If you're more into animals the Dallas World Aquarium is also downtown and is very excellent.
Platinum club is nice, I don't personally like waiters blocking my view of the game. Since it's a Thursday night game you'll have your pick of the seats though. You can go scalper if you like (corner of Olive and Houston very safe BTW), or pick up a cheap ticket for $9 the day of the game (10am CST from this link), and just move down as you see fit.
PM me if you have any questions. I'm on CP every day.
