More of the 99% being put out of work as a result, more people to 'occupy'. Nice recruitment scam, huh?

You know, the 1-2% people must be loving this. They are juuuuust about as rich as the 1%, but the other 98% thinks they are oppressed.
Now THAT is the good life!

Next thing you know they're gonna want to charge me more taxes for my domestic staff.
I was going to post a picture of a human ashtray, but that was just gross

Obviously charitable donations should be heavily taxed... because... you know... the top 1% almost assuredly consistently make far more charitable donations than the bottom 99%.

All I want to know Old-Fart is if I toss a raw steak into my backyard fight pit containing two members of the 99% is if I can write off the Steak as a legitimate busines expense.

Whomever set up the original @OccupyCalgary twitter account (possibly Paul Hughes from the St Patrick's Island group) has gone off the rails and is calling out the remaining clowns at the plaza for what they are.
It's funny as hell for him to call them out on their BS like taking 3 weeks to get a whiteboard:
Quote:
@OccupyCalgary
Hey, we need a whiteboard! Can anyone donate a whiteboard? #occupycalgary #yyc
----
Whiteboards! And dry erase markers, in multiple colours so ppl think we're diverse! #yyc #occupycalgary
----
Okay, we're forming a committee to consider the wording for a motion to knit a #whiteboard. This shouldn't take long #occupycalgary #yyc
----
@grant asks @joannecostello "I thought the 5 year plan was for you to have my #occupy love child & then knit the #whiteboard" #Occupycalgary
|
A few of the squatters have tweeted back with "stop using our name to ruin our cause" and the @OccupyCalgary account has basically snapped back with " shut up b****, #OccupyCalgary"
Funny as hell in my opinion, internet drama at it's finest. Hope he releases a fake "list of demands" to the media before they catch on.

No I think their just making fun of the way the plaza group's meetings involve a whole lot of conversation that basically goes nowhere & accomplishes nothing.
I skimmed through one of their general assembly videos and their basically just spinning their tires with never ending questions, and questions about questions, and questions about the question questioning the original question.
EG:
"Ok folks, we're going to set up a non-profit account at a credit union tomorrow"
"Is it really ethical for our group to be working with a credit union?"
"Well I'd agree with you, but we can't bring about change without working within the system & tools we have"
"But I thought we were building a new system, and a new set of tools"
"Ok let's considering what our alternatives to a credit union may be"
"I'm not sure I like the word 'alternatives', we want it to be the new standard, maybe we should use the word standard"
"Shall we raise a motion to rename the motion to explore our endeavor to create a non-profit financial vessel?"
"Is vessel really the right word?"
And so on...

I'd think you were funny Jaydorn if I thought you were actually exaggerating. But, I fear, you are not - although I think your commentary is probably easier to understand than the actual meeting likely was. You don't have enough "ya know man" and "like, totally right on dudes" in there...

Occupy Calgary protestor Marcus Arsenault claims to have been fired from his job due to his participation in the protest, but the Herald thinks it may be fake?
Quote:
One might be convinced that Elric had every interest in lying to me in order to evade media scrutiny. While this is a compelling argument to consider, he then said this:
“I know how to spell my last name.”
And indeed, in the original email sent to the Herald, Nielsen’s name is misspelled “Neilson.” (I’ve included the full exchange for your scrutiny below).

Yeah, it's rather hard to believe a manager would be that stupid in an email. Aside from the fact that the guy who probably wrote it spelled his bosses name wrong, companies don't fire you over email.

It seems odd that in the e-mail the boss goes out of his way to point out that the firing is unjust and illegal.
It wasn't enough to just say it once he had to go back and make it very clear that the reason for the firing was illegal. Sure isn't anything fishy about that at all.

I don't buy it at all. Beyond the horrible email grammar, and the misspelling of the bosses name, I doubt that they would send a email like that, and beyond that Sodexo is one of those monster 120,000 employee companies, you can bet that they have stringent firing processes to protect themselves that wouldn't involve a free form email like that.
Whether this kid was in on it or not and it was faked, he's now set himself up to get hammered on by a monstrous publicly traded company.
