I think it's beyond hope - nobody cares except people our age or older...
They could have the fighters oil each other up slowly with lingering close ups, but even my dumb ass teenagers might cotten on then and start to get frightened.

For boxing to regain its former popularity, there needs to be one sanctioning organization, and it needs to move away from PPV and get on network TV.
Having said that, knowing what we now know about concussions, I don't know how much longer boxing will be acceptable.
You could argue the same with the MMA stuff though in terms of concussions, we've had a lot longer to see the effects of concussions on boxers, and they're wearing heavily padded gloves. With MMA still being relatively new, I think you'll start seeing long term debilitating injuries from that sport as well.
And yeah, I used to love boxing, but the problem is that the day of the entertaining heavyweight is gone and there's really nothing in the pipe.
As much as people claim to like watching boxing as the sweet science that is done in the lighter divisions, you still want to see the ferocious knockout power of a Mike Tyson or Ali.
But Boxing needs to be consolidated, and it needs to be cleaned up corruption wise.

Smoking Joe is almost the last of his kind, he was so similar to Foreman before Foreman got soft and became happy George in the end.
Joe like Foreman were vicious and brutal and angry in the ring, they could easily play the villian to Ali's hero.
That was the trouble with Tyson, he was a perfect villian but there was no talented inteligent hero to act as a foil, so his acendancy left a bad taste.

The big difference is the ten count. IMO that is what makes boxing a brutal sport nowadays. MMA doesn't have that. If a guy gets knocked out in a hockey fight or hit, you don't allow him to continue to play as long as he can stand up within ten seconds.
It's a rule that is a relic of the past, when we all thought guys "just got their bell rung".
I often wonder if boxing and their fans would ever allow a change, where if I guy gets knocked down, out cold, that's it fights over. No standing ten count.
There have been scumbags running boxing since it began. Boxing has always had one foot in the grave just carrying on until the next big name takes it over.
Before Ali we had Sony Liston. Liston was an ex con who was brutal and had no charisma. He died of heroin overdose in Las Vegas. He took the title from Floyd Patterson. Patterson was probably the last of the sub 200 Lb.ers and he was managed by a guy who knew his limitations and so Patterson never did face any really tough opposition until Liston.
The thing is boxing was in the doldrums until Ali came along and made it headliner news again. Maybe another charismatic heavyweight fighter will come along. Right now all the heavyweight action seems to be in Europe so no one gives a crap.
