RIM hasn't done anything new in a LONG time. BBM is great. If I had a BB I would love it. People at work love their BBs. It does email very well, and is great for he business side. Nothing can beat it IMO. But the business side isn't what is driving sales.

The new Bold 9900 is a pretty cool phone. But it is just more of the same. They don't even have Wifi Hotspot. Seriously?

But, for certain people it is quite good enough.
Not trying to turn this into another Apple thread but how did they get burned for anything recently? They missed the estimates and everyone was over it the next day.

At least for now, everyone gets over any mistake Apple makes. If BlackBerry had that location service bug depleting the battery life, it would've been blown out of proportion by the media.

Well you're probably right that people got over it the next day. Antennagate is another thing that Apple got hammered on. Although they probably weren't hammered like RIM is these days.

I understand exactly what you mean, but RIM isn't helping themselves. They need to innovate and do new things. I don't know what that is, but when the biggest thing to happen to your phones the past 2 years is your most popular phone going from a not having a touch screen, to having a touch screen, you probably ought to worry a bit. Talking about the Bold.

That being said, my dad got the 9900 the other day, and after playing around with it, I love it based on what it can do on the business side. Hell, it seems like a solid phone all around.

But it really isn't anything new or sexy. The touchscreen isn't sexy anymore. BBM isn't sexy anymore, even with the 70 million users it has. BBES isn't sexy anymore. Companies like IBM are moving to allowing their employees to use any phone they want, and this will keep happening more and more.

Hopefully RIM has something up their sleeve, because they need it.

The more I think about this, its got to be more about the social aspect than the music aspect..25 new songs a month is such a bizarre number.

It's a half assed attempt at getting BBM back in the minds of their personal/non-business customers.

And when I say half assed I mean Jim probably brained stormed it while sitting on the toilet playing with an iPhone.

The only time i see a person listening to music holding a BB, their headphones are plugged into an iPod in their pocket.

^Which is an example of the brilliant marketing from Apple. I think that every phone can play music, and has been able to for years (smartphones). I can't notice a difference in sound quality and all of the itunes files transfer over seemingly fine as well. Other than wanting a clip-on nano for the gym or something like that I don't know why people buy both. I could well be missing something I guess.

The only thing I could think of is people with work phones who are not able to.

I know couple people with both an iPhone and iPod Classic. They can't fit their entire library on their phone.
