Crowfoot Medicenter is really bad. I've had a couple bad experiences there and will never return.

+1 to whoever suggested it was likely a foreign 'resident' - aka one of the many foreign trained doctors doing their studies and practicum to get Canadian accreditation.

She is not sure what would have gone on here but she also says they have foreign trained doctors as aides in the clinics who are permitted to do stitches.

Another +1 for superglue. I won't even bother going to get stiches anymore. You throw some super glue on the cut after a good cleaning (I always use hydrogen peroxcide first) and vioila, you're not bleeding any more. In about a week the cuts healed and like others have said there's basically no scar.

I don't know, I must have done it wrong, I gashed myself pretty good a couple of years ago, and I used superglue to put it back together, and I ended up with a pretty epic scar from it.

Stupid question - where does the super glue go? Does it basically just disappear after awhile?

I think as your body sheds skin the superglue just kinda flakes out.

You were probably treated by an IMG (International Medical Graduate) or medical student. You could certainly complain, but one doc criticizing another "doc's" work is nothing earth shattering, and minor complications like yours happen not infrequently.

As for the glue Rx, if the cut is quite deep or if you don't do it properly, you will end up with an epic scar. Dermabond is only used as the very last step (often we've already laid deeper stitches), and is generally applied only to the most superficial skin surfaces. If you get generic crazy glue below the skin line it can get infected or cause a foreign body reaction. And any form of cautery is a burn, to which you are begging for scarring if not used sparingly.

I have done three cuts this way that would easily have required stitches, and they heal beautifully. I learned the trick on the side of a highway in Montana when I took a rock to the head on my motorcycle, and I was not wearing a helmet. A truck driver stopped, and glued me together.. albeit skipping stage three, and using a little vodka to rinse the wound. When I got home I went to the walk in clinic to get it properly fixed, and the doctor says "That truck driver did a nice job. If you notice it start to get infected come back, otherwords, it should heal up fine."

Just sealed up a nasty one from a carpet knife this summer, and it barely left a scar after healing.

From what I understand, dermabond, is just medical grade crazy glue anyway.

This will work until it doesn't -- ie you get infection and it spreads to the bone and you need your digit(s) amputated or worse. Docs prescribe antibiotics and tetanus shots if appropriate. They know how to properly irrigate and clean a wound. The nurse or doc suture/glue in a sterile environment. They also know when to put in tension sutures if appropriate. Health care is one of the benefits of being Canadian -- think about it before wasting it.

Not too sure what a complaint to the clinic would do. They might have motivation to cover it up. But maybe they have disiplinary measures.

That place is sweet.

I went in because my heart was feeling weird, they told me it would be fine and it would go away on it's own by morning.

I went home, went to bed, woke up feeling like crap.

I went to the hospital, the took my pulse (which they couldn't even find it was so irregular) and I immediately went into the emergency room (despite a fairly full waiting room) and was defibrillated shortly after.

Edit: I forgot to mention I also got shot up on blood thinners and observed overnight because my Arythmia was left untreated so long that there was a risk of clots forming in my heart and causing a stroke.... but those are usually no big deal.

I went through that once and went to the 10th ave clinic and they took one look at the EKG that they ran on me and called an ambulance.

Of course the doc at foothills almost killed me by making me take beta blockers
