Really?! Are you seriously comparing people s***ing in downtown Calgary while illegally camping to dog owners not picking up after thier dogs?

For the most part people pick up their dog's ####, and dogs don't have the facilities or general brain power to pick up their own poo.
These are human beings sh%tting in areas that are suppossed to be public areas for all people to use, not only that but its unhygenic.
+ again, how the hell is this all right in any way shape or form.
What your also saying is that we should consider these people not to be people, but base dumb animals.

The porta potties were at the St. Patrick's Island location, I think the only facilities at Olympic Plaza are the ones there, that most likely get shut down every night.

Not quite tawanee7 crazy, but still a head scratcher from an #OccupyCalgary supporter on twitter.

Apparently Cory wasn't attempting or expressing a message with this stunt. Thus he's not protected by the charter...
I'm honestly baffled by this position that somehow the Occupy Calgary camp is protected as free expression by the charter, but Cory's stunt is not.
Both actions are pubic actions that are open to judgement form the public, both are in violation of city bylaws.
As the public we have the opportunity to agree or disagree with both. Yet somehow Cory's isn't a valid form of expression.
Somebody help me here?

The fact that it comes free people who have probably been taught from birth about human hygene, and that what seperates man from animals is we use these things call toilets.
Plus even the dumbest camper knows that crapping in the middle of your own camp spot is not only disgusting but bad from a hygene factor.
Most people will pick up their dogs poop.
This is a public park right across from city hall and in the middle of a main traffic area for people to go and have their lunch, and your literally taking a massive sh%t there.
There are facilities right within range provided for no cost and these people don't have the respect to use them.
Its disgusting and its gross, and the fact that these occupiers just let steaming piles of human excrement sit there tells me that their argument that their not destroying the park and treating it with respect is complete BS.

They don't get shut down at night, the city has been pretty clear about that. One of the things that they've discussed is locking them down after hours.

I can't even believe that this has to be explained to someone. Fine, you think that the occupation isn't a big deal, fair enough....but defending the protestors who have been defecating in the park is really beyond belief. Hopefully you're getting the reaction you were hoping for?

Not sure I can really put it into words other than to say I would be a lot less disgusted stepping in dog shat.
I get that you don't like dogs and owners not picking up after them. I've seen the other threads, and honestly I don't blame you. We own two dogs and always take extra bags whenever we go out and I can't stand when I see that others don't pick up after thier dogs.
People shatting in public is a whole different level.

Where am I defending them, or am I completely missing something in my post?

That's the part that really baffles me.
I'm not surprised at all that they're sharting outside in the park but the fact that you can see one of the tents so close to the piles just has me completely scratching my head.
On another note - could the city not do something along the lines of blasting them with flood lights through the night, playing super annoying music or showeing them with gift baskets filled with corporate greed?
So not to physically force them out but at least help encourage them to leave?
