With this lawsuit against Justin Beiber this protest just seems so unimportant now.

I still find it amusing that someone who has commented multiple times on his blog about the monetary impact, via damages and what not, the occupiers are having, decided the best way to protest this was to go down and incur more monetary cost from his stunt as a result of CPS and Bylaw showing up to deal with him. Obviously the numbers don't compare, but still, a bit silly, don't you think?

They are the equivalent to Greenpeace scaling the Calgary Tower only to realize the forgot to make a banner. Their numbers aren't growing, and neither is their support. As a protest movement, the Olympic Plaza crowd is a complete and utter fail.

I'm still not sure what Morgan's message was - raising bylaw awareness? Politically opposing apparent left-wing and socialist protesting? Making a point that Nenshi's approach is wrong? I'm not seeing which of these messages is the most visible, even after today's morning news and internet browsing.
Also be careful about the 'growing' part. The numbers have grown quite a bit for Occupy protests, just not in Calgary, which is fine for most everyone here. Quite a different story from in the U.S. since they began.

Yeah, politically active since his 20's. Shame on him for standing up and getting involve. Why can't he just sit on his couch and armchair quarterback like the rest of us. /green text

Was. Couple of parties and eleven years ago. Regardless, why not the microscope on backgrounds of every other protester. n/m redundant question.
Cory's experience in his own words.

I very obviously was speaking only about the Olympic Plaza crowd.
But nationally, the (probable) drug overdose death has doomed the Vancouver camp out, and Saskatoon has already bailed because the temperature dropped below freezing. I haven't heard anything much about other Canadian locations. Whatever the state of the American Occupy protests, the Canadian ones are stagnant at best, collapsing in some locales, and utterly ridiculous at times, especially in Calgary.

Didn't Nenshi say in a press conference earlier last week that bylaws could be enforced, they just couldn't remove them? I could have sworn he said they could write tickets but not remove people.

I agree they're ridiculous, but when the warm weather comes back they'll likely be protesting again. I've always thought the cold weather argument was overplayed, considering no one wants to freeze and die (and understandably so). I highly doubt winter will stop a movement with this type of momentum. Come Spring, they'll be back.
On a side note, the Occupy Atlanta movement is actually following the by-laws. They aren't allowed on their space past 11:00 PM, so they're all standing on the sidewalk next to the park until the morning. Stubborn, yes, but law-abiding, yes. Just interesting the folks in Olympic Plaza can't do the same.

Unless their a public threat to themselves or to people around them, or causing damage to the part.
If thats human crap, thats a big major sticking point for me.
Pun not intended.

That's my problem, even though I think these idiots have the attention span of a gnat and they'll find something else cool and edgy to occupy their time or god forbid get jobs, we'll be back in this same situation next year.
What they need to do is find a way to increase fines and enforce those fines before the ice breaks in the Spring.

I think Morgan was VERY clear on his main message. His first comment in the Herald article sums it up
"Apparently bylaws can be enforced in this park," said Morgan, who paid $201.39 in towing and impound fees to get his truck back but plans to fight the bylaw ticket in court.
"I hope that precedent has been set."
That's what this is about - and he got that message out very clearly.
The Sun also focused on this as the main issue...its even in their headline:
City acting like hypocrites
Turns out they do enforce bylaws ... just not against protesters
http://www.calgarysun.com/2011/11/06...ike-hypocrites
Whether one agrees with the tactics employed by Mr. Morgan he executed his counter protest with perfection and got the precise coverage he wanted. That's the value of having a clear message.
And in other news...
...the latest on how council may tackle this:
http://www.660news.com/news/local/ar...-city-business
Nenshi says the city will also look at possibly removing vacant tents, something Bylaw boss Bill Bruce pointed out the city can do under current bylaws.
and
Victoria officials issued an ultimatum to campers in Centennial Square to get out Monday or face the consequences.
Vancouver's mayor is also looking for an exit strategy following the recent death of a protestor at the camp in his city.
Quebec is also telling occupy protestors to get out or face the consequences, the protestors say they are staying put.

Actually all they really have to do is put a fence around the site and not allow any one that leaves back in, I'd say the average occupy protestor will last about 2 days before they need to go score some more weed or scag, Ghandi they ain't.

First Lady, I thought you'd be really happy about the outcome for your "hubby".
It looks to me the City has learned from the whole Occupy Calgary fiasco that they need to issue tickets immediately as a protest starts up to prevent widespread by-law disobedience, and they did so.
It looks like Nenshi totally listened to you guys. Good work!

Yes his message was quite clear, anyone who says otherwise is just in denial quite frankly.
You can question his motives (possibly trying to score political points for future campaign), you can disagree with his message (he's trying to silence a real protest), but to say his message is unclear in anyway is just denial.
He feels the bylaws aren't being enforced equally and the city clearly won't accept "it's our charter right" to break any and all bylaws. So why is the camping bylaw being forgiven?
You don't have to agree with him or his means, but his message is quite clear.
