People who enjoy seeing two amazingly good defenses filled with at least a dozen players who will be NFL stars probably liked it. I'll take that game over a series of speed options any day.

I am kind of biased but who is to say that maybe the reason these two SEC defenses look so good is because the offenses in the SEC are just horrid? I really havent paid much attention to the SEC this year but has Bama or LSU played any good offenses this year and just shut them down (outside of LSU playing oregon)?

Obviously I am an Oklahoma guy so I think Oklahoma or Oklahoma state would be awesome to watch. OU has a lot better defense than OSU ( and their offenses are similar). After watching last nights game I think OSU's defense ( which is horrible) could keep LSU and Bama off the boards. I just dont know how well the high flying offenses would do against those Defenses.

Agree completely here, although I think the offenses are more one-dimensional (and therefor easier to shut down) then horrid.

Edit: And before everyone jumps on me and starts saying how LSU put up 40 on the Ducks, I'd just like to mention it's not hard to do when you're average scoring drive is 37 yards.

All those defensive players going to the NFL out of the SEC are a result of a SEC defence mirage.

The last time the Sooners played a legit SEC team they scored 14 points after 5 straight games of 60 plus.

So your going to hang your hat on a game that was 3 seasons ago and was a home game ( for all intensive purposes) for Florida to argue the fact that SEC offenses stink this year which could make their defenses look a lot better than they are ?

OK...

Well what are people basing the statement that SEC defences are overrated on? This year? SEC defences is a long standing thing.

Clemson back up to #9. That loss last week still stings. Clemson would be sitting at #3 or #4 right now.

Win out and I think we'll get a BCS game.

The fact that the 2 best teams in the SEC had offenses that looks absolutely weak ..get this ... last night... not 3 yrs ago.

So that begs the question. If the 2 best team's offenses are that horrible , could the defenses only look good because the rest of the offenses they play are that bad?

Why did they look so horrible? Couldn't possibly be because they were matched up against incredible defenses could it?

The SEC is not an offensive powerhouse conference, I fully accept that. Offences don't look good against two of the best defences in the country.

It's not like the people on this forum are out here on a limb in being the only ones saying that SEC defences are good. Sheesh, two of the best defences kept the game incredibly low scoring and now somehow the defences are overrated.

I think SEC teams have to play against other teams who have great athletes on the defensive side of the ball. Lots of good offensive players come out of the SEC.

and A&M ? bye bye defensive powerhouses.

And I was only asking a questions about the offenses and defenses. If you see my first post about it I admitted I dont watch much SEC football. It's boring. If I have to see a rematch of last nights game in the national title game , I might as well.. well I guess not watch a snoozefest.

That was one of the better games I've seen this season. Great defense and incredibly physical. Great football.

Absolutely.

I guess I don't understand why people think a game has to have a ton of offense to be a good game. Top level SEC teams are designed to win in their conference. To do so, you have to be able to stop NFL caliber RB/WR's almost every weekend. Their players are bigger, stronger, and certainly faster across the board than teams in other conferences. They have to be to navigate their division/conference.

The SEC has never lost in the BCS Championship Game. If people can't appreciate that type of football, it's simply a personal preference.

I know I'd rather watch a hard fought 2-1 NHL playoff game than some 7-5 aberration. I can appreciate a 1-0 NL pitching duel over a 12-8 AL home run derby. Different strokes, I guess.

I blame the CFL.

I'm in the middle somewhere. I too appreciate good defensive football or defense in any sport.

But last night's game was a poor one. The offenses were very timid. The offensive lines were dominated.

But that game wasn't even like a 2-1 NHL playoff game. It's like a zero-zero game that ends in a shootout. As a Ducks fan it's not bad watching your team just run wild week after week, but the best game I've watched them in was last year in the BCS game against Auburn. At least in that game you didn't know going in that it was going to be four quarters of two teams doing absolutely nothing, with the final score probably being around 10-7 (which was what I predicted). It just seems like both teams were so concerned about not giving up the big turnover and just ran slow developing vanilla offenses.

EDIT: Also the fact that Alabama is still sitting above Stanford is a complete joke.

yup I agree.. for example the Ravens-Steelers game.. that was a good defensive game. The offense figured out the defense at times and then the defense recovered and on and on. A good defense game needs some balance, not total domination.

Bama and LSU are the two best teams in the country. They number 2 team lost to the number 1 team by 3 in overtime.... Stanford won't finish undefeated
