I second this, I absolutely love Pulcinella. The diavola w/ chili oil is a win.
I see a lot of back and forth about Coco Brooks. Definitely one of the better frozen/take-home pies around, but it is exceptionally greasy which puts me off.

Demitris on the corner of Kensington Road and 19th St NW. The wife is grumpy, grumpy, grumpy (she's famous for being a b*tch), but their Greek pizza (they have great choices and 2 for 1 pricing) is amazing.

still the best i've had in Calgary, but nothing has yet to touch the mom and pop pizza place i had back home. small town place that put loads of real toppings on (none of that pre-formed ground beef or other meats), had the perfect crust thickness and a nice rolled edge with just the perfect amount of cheese baked on top. ever since moving here 10 years ago i've been trying to find a pizza place as good as that one without success, but Inglewood has been the closest so far

A little off topic but does anyone make their own pizza?
I know that a hot BBQ is the way to go over a conventional oven, but I've had a lot of success both ways. I have a breadmaker so I just make the dough with that. My secret ingredient is to use beer instead of water. Seems to allow the crust to rise a little better and has a sweeter taste.
My only problem is that it's a messy affair, and I'm always compelled to make way too many!

My GF makes homemade pizza, and it rivals the best I have had anywhere. However, it is an infrequent endeavor, which makes me sad.

Tried Pizza73 for the first time a while back and I almost threw up. I bet the cardboard the pizza it came in tastes better.
Sunshine pizza is where I usually order from. Western style isn't so bad either.

I miss Piazza, awesome place that used to be on 37th St in the SW. Aside from the pizza being fantastic, the steak sandwich was awesome as well.

Sophies Pizza on Richmond Road in the SW is great too. I think it's the son of the Spiro's owners who runs it.

Someone else mentioned Hanni's on 37th--they're also very good.
But my recent go-to is Jeanne's Pizza on 17th Avenue in Killarney. Reasonable prices, and REALLY good pizza. Super friendly too.

Another vote to Atlas as has been mentioned previously. Also, Beckham's makes excellent pizza for a pub - Thursday nights they have personal 3 topping pizza for $8. And if I have to do a take-out chain, I usually go for Western Pizza Express - better than most chains imo.

I know it used to be terrible, but now I think A Pizza Plus (Bow Trail and 45th Street) makes excellent pizza for takeout.
Guess that's what happens when there's a change in the owner.

I've eaten there for 20+ years; but uber-cheesy/greasy Greek style pizza isn't the "best" of anything.

I just used a mix for the pizza dough tonight, but made it with beer instead of water based on your post.
Just wanted to say thanks, it turned out amazing!

FATS in Kensington is pretty good for pub class of pizza. Demetris in West Hillhurst and Pulcinella also make good pie.

Current favorite for me in the NW is the pizza from Red Rock Bar & Grill.
