You can make 100K easily in Calgary, but you just have to be a hard worker and have a little business sense. Heck, I know people who drive taxis, work in construction, own painting companies who make more than 100k every year.

After years of fighting it, I finally signed on to work O&G. Leaving a senior level job at a tech-centric company and still slated to make 11% more in base salary.
Even though I couldn't care less about money, I did a double take when I saw the offer letter. This O&G money is well beyond what I could have anticipated.

A guy I work with makes over a 100K a year and he drives a 93 Civic - he's also on this forum.
As I said earlier, 100K isn't as much money as people make it out to be.

I don't think you can sign a contract relinquishing your rights, especially when safety is a concern. If you really want to take away an employees rights you need make them an owner of the company. Toss them a single share and most of their labour rights go out the window.
The limit on hours worked in a day is written as:
An employee may work a maximum of 12 hours in a day unless an unforeseeable or unpreventable emergency occurs
I think some people are more liberal with what is unforeseeable or unpreventable. Production gets pretty atrocious after 12 hours though so I don't think it is worth it for anyone.

I wanted to say that the $100k isn't that big of a deal as well, but figured I would get flamed for it. As far as what you drive and how much you earn I don't see a connection. Some people like cars and some people don't. I make a good living and don't know anything about cars...I just drive because I need to and its convenient.

And on the on the flip side, I know people who really don't make a lot of money but drive nice cars because they were foolish and managed to get financing that they really shouldn't have.
I am surprised that there are so many people here that make more than $100k a year. Personally, I think it's a big deal so kudos to everyone who managed. I would love to make that much money, but I doubt that I ever will. The $60-70k range seems to be the norm for the field I am in (which I think is a lot, but I grew up dirt poor).

I'm just suggesting that's really the only car he can afford or at least chooses to afford. When you make 100K and your wife is a stay at home mom with 2 kids then 100K in Calgary really doesn't go that far.

If you're making 100 g's large a year and you want to own a house, drive 2 cars and support a family. 100 grand doesn't go too far, especially in Calgary because of our cost of living.
