No wonder Occupy Calgary has little to no supporters here.
Any of you $100,000+'ers hiring?

I think 100K per year is actually a lot less money than people who don't make it think that it is.....

Becoming wealthy is about income and expenses. You need a decent income, but you also need to control your expenses. Driving used, Japanese vehicles is actually very typical of "The Millionaire Next Door."

The results don't really surprise me, considering where we live, and the quality of discussion on this board.

Our company has about 235 employees. We have 12 employees who earn over $100K. There are some commissioned staff who may be making over $100K, but that would be another 6-12 people max. Our median salary is about $55K. We are not O&G, but we're not a McDonald's type employer either. The only employees with unlimited internet access (and able to log onto CP) would be the ones in the 100K+ category.

It really does say something when 31% are making over $100,000. And those that say that $100,000 is really hard to live off in Calgary.... try living off the $25,000 my relatives in Halifax are making.

I went with base salary....minimum bonus also bumps me up another level.
Frankly I'm flabbergasted that over 50% of CP Respondents earn over $80,000.....and a THIRD are over $100,000.
Good for you CP!

$100K in Calgary is like $40K in Halifax or some other sleepy east coast town. It's all about perspective.

To illustrate:
Avg Halifax home price: $251 111
Average calgary Home price: $467,000
So at $467,000 The salary to home price at $100K is 4.67 years. Apply that in reverse to Halifax and you get a salary of $54K
So $54K in Halifax is equal to $100K in Calgary in terms of home purchasing power, not to mention the increased cost of food and entertainment in Calgary. I believe that supports my comment that $100K in Calgary = $40K in Halifax.

I’m interning at an investment bank right now, and actually make a fairly good salary for an intern position. However the full time guys coming just out of University, with salary and bonus combined, make over 100K per year. Granted they work 90+ hours a week and have no life outside of work, so take that number and put it into perceptive. On a very rough calculation it’s ~$35/hr so $67,200 on a comparative 40 hour work week basis.

For most people the perfect job is the one that takes the least amount of time.

So your ratio is 100:40 while this site puts the ratio at 78:60.

Housing is a big difference, but transportation, food, electricity, etc are surprisingly similar despite the income inequality.

The $500,000 per year investment banker who works 80 hours per week is less "powerful" than the employed NR who works 1/4 the hours and makes $40,000 per year but has complete freedom of when and where and how to live, the ability to choose is the real power. It just so happens that you can make a lot more money than you are right now by doing half of what you are doing. WHO ARE THE NR : The employee who rearranges his schedule so that he can work remotely and achieve 90% of the reults in 10% of the time which frees him to practice cross country skiing or take road trips with his family two weeks per month.
