Tim Horton's to Serve Espresso Coffee and Other Frilly Beverages
Tim Hortons to take on competitors with its own espresso coffees
Quote:
A coffee war is brewing in Canada as Tim Hortons prepares to launch its own line of espresso-based drinks to compete with Starbucks and McDonald’s.
Starting next week the iconic national chain will begin offering customers espresso, lattes and brewed-on-the-spot cappuccinos, all made from sophisticated machines that have been quietly been making their way into Tim’s outlets across Canada.
|
I'm not a big coffee drinker at all, but it seems like this kind of thing has been a long time coming with just about all their competition offering these kind of drinks before. I'm not sure it will take any business away from the Starbucks or Second Cups of the world but I don't think there is any problem with more selection.

I'm pretty sure that McD's, Costco et al. all use the same superautomatic machines that are so easy to use Stortini could do it!
I guess it would be the same sort of deal here.

At the Northland Mall location of Tim Hortons, they were offering a medium cup of Vanilla Espresso (or something) for $1.
Of course I had to try Tim's next big thing and I actually didn't hate it.
....But it didn't taste like a double double so I didn't love it either.
Coconut Almond cookie is really good though!

Same with Starbucks.....
I'm curious to see how terrible the Tims "espresso" is; competition is nothing but good

Shouldn't they be worried about losing their image as the no frills, coffee and donut people? Don't who go to Tim's often hate Starbucks? That's the impression I got when I lived in Canada.

Can they build a separate line for their lady coffees and their bagels that take forever to make? Or better yet, have an express line for guys who just want a friggin black coffee.

Yum. I wonder if they'll taste like brown water too.

Call me when when they start selling caffeine pills. A double double is 230 calories and 12 grams of fat of brown sugary (26g of sugar) water that you have to stand in line 10 minutes to buy. I don't get the hype.

I'm not much of a coffee snob, I usually go to wherever's closest... and for my office, that's Starbucks (and I usually get an Espresso/Americano/etc), near home, it's Good Earth, and so on.
Tims adding espresso drinks isn't going to really make a difference to that for me, I'll probably try one next time I'm there just to see how it compares.

Espresso is frilly? I cant drink "normal" coffee at all because I drink Espresso, everything else tastes like sink water.
Go to Europe and ask for a cafe Americano...then line up on the "frilly" side.

I do my best to brew my own coffee at home because it tastes better and costs a whole hell of a lot less. If I want a "frilly" beverage I'll find a place that makes a damn good one; Starbucks is s**t and I imagine Tims won't do any better.

I agree and if I am going to get a "frilly" beverage I will try a small coffee house.
I really like Weeds on 20th ave NW and somewhere between 18th and 22nd st.

Supposedly they're coming out with more lunch options as well (pasta, etc).
It's the same reason Starbucks came out with their line of breakfast wraps; everyone is competing for more market share.
I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but Mcdonalds coffee FTW!

When I do grab a coffee out of the house I usually go for McDonalds as well. Their free coffee promotions weren't a bad idea either.

Oh man, all this coffee talk makes me want one. I haven't had coffee in weeks. I think I might just give in and get a cup while I'm out today.
