So who's worried about avion Flu/a pandemic?

Here's the Calgary Health region link to the global pandemic that could be coming.http://www.calgaryhealthregion.ca/pandemic/index.htm
There's been lots of ramping up recently of doom saying.
Like the flu could kill those in the age group of 20-40 the most due the better immune systems of that age group. Apparently the flu triggers the immune response so much that it is in fact your own immune system that kills you.

Here's a surreal read: the following addresses have been highlighted by the CHR as areas for extra fatalities to be stored when the death rate starts climbing above usual storage areas ability to cope:

 FACILITY ADDRESSMurray Copot Arena
 (formerly the Thornhill Arena)
 6715 Centre Street NW
Village Square Leisure Centre 2623 – 56 Street NE
Plainsman Arena 310 Center Avenue, Airdrie
Oilfi elds Arena 611 – 3 Street SW, Black Diamond
Canmore Recreation Center 1900 – 8 Avenue, Canmore
 Claresholm Claresholm Arena
Didsbury Arena & Memorial Complex 1702 – 21 Avenue, Didsbury
Bob Snodgrass Recreation Complex 228 – 12 Avenue SW, High River
Strathmore Family Center 160 Brent Boulevard, Strathmore
Vulcan Curling Rink 705a Elizabeth Street, Vulcan

No Dome though so there's a plus!
It looks pretty bleak if it kicks off, anyone else concerned?

Yep, I feel the same way. I die, then I die. Not much I can do.

Not me. If the bird flu hits I'm gonna pile some supplies in my station wagon and head for the mountains like in Red Dawn.
Then I'm gonna come back and defeat that commie flu with my ragtag bunch of rebels.

I'm worried for a few reasons... obviously family and that sort of thing but also because I'm not sure how it would affect my line of work. Will the NHL shut down for a year when there's a pandemic simply because large gatherings will be frowned upon by the WHO?

Ok, now I'm worried. Another year w/o hockey, and this time not just the NHL? j/k.

I forget, what exactly is it you do? I thought you were the webmaster.

During the sars outbreak they had data showing that audience sizes went drastically down for sporting events, movies etc. Extrapolate that with a far bigger problem over a far wider area. Lines of work? I'm well worried about that.
I'd think that big sports would temporarily stop across the board. If only due to players wanting to be home with sick family etc and the added risk of infection due to travel.

			Nope.
The same scare tactics were trotted out when West Nile Virus made it's way to North America.

Regular flu has killed more people this month in the US than the avian flu has killed worldwide since the story broke.

True and I know all about Y2k etc. But actually the story hasn't broken. It'll break when and if the virus goes from bird to human, to human to human. That's when it could get scary.

I'll make some sandwhiches.

I'm not too concerned. I mean, what can you do? Take whatever percautions they tell you to I guess, but if you are gonna get it you are gonna get it. It won't matter much when you're dead.

I was actually pretty scared about influenza pandemics back about ten years ago, before it was all trendy and getting prime-time news coverage. Now that everyone's into it, I've moved on. Kinda like Modest Mouse: I was a fan of them in the mid-nineties, so of course I scoff whenever somebody says how Moon and Antarctica was their best album. I'd tell you what the next big thing to be frightened of is, but I don't want to lessen anyone's experience of waiting for the pandemic.
