The whole letter is problematic. It sounds like it's coming from a petulant child ready to take his ball him.

I do not think someone who works within the financial industry on Wall St. would actually write ". . . . or some hypothetical piece of fake paper" as you see in the first paragraph.
Nor would someone who works there compare what they do to "gambling."
And on and on.
Looks like creative writing by someone outside of the culture . . . . . like someone favouring Occupy Wall St.
Frankly.

I was going to say this. The letter is probably a fake. However, I am sure there are people with those attitudes. Heck, there are some on these boards.

The letter is probably fake, but I thought it was amusing. It also does actually make a few sensible points albeit in the wrong way.

I thought it was clearly a spoof, albeit a very subtle and good one. It starts off sounding legitimate and credible, and gradually ups the absurdity level stopping just short of being absurd by the end of the letter.

Forwarded this to my boss. I am interested in seeing her reaction, as we are a non-profit organization that has apparently failed at social activism in the many decades we have been around.

Be sure to forward the one about anti-intellectualism, to give some balance to that tweet.

Funny thing is the occupy group talk about "open discussion". Tawnee7 is great a spewing the comments out, but doesn't respond to anyone. Several have asked her for examples....

Just look at her twitter description, dupstep, shambala (a druggy festival) and partying. I wouldn't expect much in the way of truly intelligent conversation.

Course our mayor won't do anything, he wants to be the cool mayor.

Nenshi is spineless. If you check out the hash-tag, #occupycalgary, you'll see plenty of people on Twitter that want these people out. Could he be any more childish in that interview with Global?
As one person put it on Twitter "Can I park my 5th wheel in Glenmore park for a few weeks, and say I'm occupying? No. Cause that would be BREAKING THE LAW!"
You're right to protest does not trump the laws of the land. The city has been more than accommodating to these people. It's time to move on. Go get a job and work your way to the top, if you don't like your current financial situation.
It worked for me.

Yeah, I thought that Nenshi came across as an arrogant tool when I watched that interview.

I vote for McIver. I bet most Calgarians wish he won now. Because there is no way he would have let this farce go on for so long.

The thing that sucks is the occupy movement is screwing up something that is quite important. White collar crime and manipulation of legislation via corporate lobbyists is an issue, presented by the occupy movement it's a jumbled mess of idiots who don't like that they have no money.

I would take you up on that bet, and win quite handily.
The existence of people complaining about Occupy Calgary on twitter carries no more weight than people supporting Occupy Calgary on twitter. It's a polarizing issue for sure, and if Nenshi decides to let this go on for any longer he very well might lose some of his support, but to claim it would turn the majority of the city against him is a ridiculous statement.

I wonder where CP's resident Nenshi cheerleaders are now? I'd really like to know why our Mayor allows this to continue while Calgarians from all across the political and economic spectrum want them out of Olympic Plaza.

Nenshi used social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc, etc) as a tool to get his message out. The people using twitter to express their upset with occupy Calgary are doing the same. Using it as a tool. So it does carry some weight.
As CaptainCrunch said, Nenshi is trying to be the "cool" mayor and just hoping these people go away. Reaching out to Nenshi, via social media, is the first step. It's probably the best way to get your message to him. He uses it all the time.
I thought it was pretty cool of him to reply and retweet about the Wannamaker thing, but now we have a real issue. He just won't step up. It's pretty obvious.

Show me a single survey or poll that suggests that as many Calgarians are in favour of Occupy Calgary's occupation of Olympic Plaza as are against it.
