Maritime....can't even imagine. I'd be puking if that was my team..that was as intense as it gets and I didn't even care who won. That is sports heartbreak at it's finest.
Just a great series to watch - best of luck to both of you, moon and maritimer. Been a great WS, one for the ages! Sometimes shoddy defense makes for great television, and you could not find more highs and lows in a seven game series than this. Epic television.
Why didn't TEX put a defensive outfielder in the game in the 9th? Why didn't they go home for the out and stop the 8th run?
1. That was really stupid. Endy Chavez had pinch hit in the top of the 9th, he should have been in RF replacing Cruz. Sure that moves the pitchers spot rom 9th to 5th but as a manager, was Washington really worried about where the pitcher hits when up 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th?
2. That's really risky. They are up by 2. If Beltre comes home and they don't get the out, then it's 1st and 2nd with 1 out and Pujols up to bat (that's not good). Getting the out at first opens up first base to intentionaly walk Pujols which is what most teams are playing for anyways. One run lead with 2 outs, most teams would take that.

I agree, but on that play I thought they had plenty of time to go home. The runner was half-way when the 3B had the ball.
Managers usually manage scared. Let's say Beltre comes home and they get the out. Then it's still 9-7, 1st and 2nd 2 out with Pujols up.
So if you're the manager which is the better scenario.
Up 9-8 1st and 2nd 2 out with Berkman up?
or up 9-7 1st and 2nd 2 out with Pujols up?
Obviously the the latter.
Pujols is clearly a better player, but Berkman was one of the best hitters in the league this year and is a borderline HOFer himself.
Hell, even a crappy hitter like Furcal or someone would make more sense statistically in that case over Pujols.
This season, Pujols hit a double, triple, or homer in 11.3% of his at bats this season (essentially the odds of at least tying the game with one hit). Furcal, as bad as he is, still got a hit in 23.1% of his at bats. Obviously every single won't score the run from second, but most do and when you factor in potential extra base hits it's a non-factor.

I hope he has a chance to replicate another of his father's famous call tonight as Albert hits the game winning shot in the 9th.. "I don't believe what I just saw... I don't BELIEVE what I just saw!!"
I still feel like someone kicked me in the stomach.
I'm literally sick to my stomach right now. It's just like 2004 all over again, only the 22 minutes between the Cooke & Gelinas goal has been going on for hours now. As much as I try I can't think of anything else.
My girlfriend keeps telling me I'm not myself, and that I must be worried about the game as things I'd normally joke about, laugh over with her I'm just dismissive of.
Perhaps if the Rangers win this will make the victory all the more sweeter. If they lose, I don't know what I'll do
