Yes to each their own for sure.
Here are my reasons why New Brighton sucks azz:
Drive by shooting across the street from my house (hence the start of this thread)
Bums going through garbage bins every week
No School or plans for a school in the future
Dump being right next door (Not sure why I overlooked that when I moved here)
Influx of new canadians to the area
Excessive amount of grow ops
Our Realtor has told us that New Brighton isn't as desirable as the other communities in the SE.
At least in Cranson they have a school and that area seems to be more desirable then living in New Brighton.
I would move if it made economical sense, but right now it doesn't.
Anyone else from New Brighton want to chime in on why they moved to area and what keeps them there?

Make sure not to move to 90 percent of communities in Calgary since during the FOB/FOBK breakout couple years back were shootings everywhere. If you look at Calgary crime map over last 6 months there are more incidents in Cranston then in New Brighton

I have never seen this in new brighton but if you have I will give it to you. No idea how they would get to new brighton unless they took bus which they don't
No School or plans for a school in the future
You do know that come junior high your kids have to go to deer run Don Bosco? Or to Acadia St Mathew. Also elementary school is only k-4 then they are shipped to bonavista. There are schools in Mckenzie Towne that eventually wont be full. It is always in cycles with schools in Calgary. I don't have kids so I don't have to deal with this for at least 8 years
Dump being right next door (Not sure why I overlooked that when I moved here)
This doesn't bother me in anyway but bothers others. After re doing back yard patio I am glad the dump was so close since I saved myself 100 bucks dumping dirt
Influx of new Canadians to the area
Have you been to the city of Calgary before? Influx of new Canadians everywhere
Excessive amount of grow ops
Again grow ops are everywhere! Remember 5 years ago when every other home in chestemere was a grow op? You don't hear about them now.
Our Realtor has told us that New Brighton isn't as desirable as the other communities in the SE.
Can't comment on this I am not a realtor

Sure if you want to live around nothing but renters and be even further away from down town.

As a towne, I feel it's my duty to request that you stay out of our hood. We don't care much for your kind.

I wouldn't want to live in Cranston due to the lack of shopping, restaurants, and other businesses. They do have a Sobey's now which helps; but living in Copperfield it's nice to be that much closer to the Towne and 130th ave.

i have lived in NB for 6+ years now and i have to admit that if there have been folks going thru the garbage to look for stuff to be recycled, then i have been missing it.
in some ways, i would like to move to elgin, as there are some nice homes there, but given my reluctance to increase the size of my mortgage, we'll stay where we are.
i fail to see where NB would be any less desireable than douglasglen or riverbend - but what do i know. maybe i'll change my mind when i get home and find that the hosue is bullet riddled......

Easy to see why it is less desirable then douglasglen riverbend further away from downtown/river. The 6 km difference makes a 30 min difference on morning commutes. I would move to Riverbend in a heartbeat over New Brighton but only because of location. Riverbend has grow ops just like every other neighborhood in this city.

I'd personally never buy a house in NB because it seems like homes don't appreciate as much compared to other SE communities. Sure, you may get more house for the money but it seems like it takes longer to sell a house in NB from my observations. Also I think there's only two or three houses in NB over 500K

Some times I get a little fired up after visiting the towne and come back to slumming in the NB and I say things I regret later! I hope we can still be friends and burn down the city together

I would defend Copperfield but I am too busy not paying Community fees and using everyone else's services.
Maybe I will go for a walk and poop in the New Brighton beach volleyball court tonight.

Hey scoop - check out p6 of the new Brighton buzz (great name for a community news bulletin given all the grow ops) - it talks about volunteering for a grow op patrol.....we could also meet and patrol the hood on Tuesday's for bums dumpster diving

I like MacKenzie Towne, but dislike New Brighton and Copperfield. You couldn't pay me to live in that part of the city, or even worse.. Silverado. You know that big lake like thing at the entrance of that community? That's covering up the huge septic tank for the community. It's not on main sewer.
