Calgary Adult Hockey Tournaments?
Ok, I started a small team here in Oklahoma and we travel to a few tournaments. We are planning our tourney schedule for 2012 now. In 2011 we went to 6 out of town tournaments. Since I love Calgary so much I would love to try to talk these guys into a taking a 4 day trip ( or so ) to Calgary so we could play some Canadian hockey. The problems is a lot of the tournaments ( even around here) arent advertised to many people but the people who play at the rinks. Do any of you guys know of any weekend tourneys that your rinks or leagues ever put on ?

Looks like the do a lot of draft tourneys CMP. Have you ever played in any of these? I am guessing since we are Americans we would also need to find a lower level tourney.

HNA puts on two pretty good tourneys. The Slush Cup is in mid May in Calgary and has 4 or 5 divisions. They also have the Banff tournament on the last weekend in September every year. The Banff one is an absolute gong show if you've got a good group of guys. Its only 45-60min outside of Calgary in the mountains.
I'd HIGHLY recommend doing the Banff one. Our HNA team has done it probably 8/10 years.
If you're REALLY into traveling the HNA tourney in Amsterdam is also EPIC. It is everything you could imagine. That one is usually in late March.
PM me for any more info.

We have only been to Dallas , Texas ; Wichita, Kansas; Kansas City , Missouri; and Springfield , Missouri. The farthest we have traveled is 6 hrs. I think maybe only half our guys would come. I have friends/family in YYC area I could prob use to fill out our roster. I will bring up this subject next time I talk to the guys.

In all seriousness, I am sure you could fill out your roster with CP members no problem. I would volunteer in a heartbeat.

I know a lot of guys that take their teams down to Vegas for tournaments. That seems to be a popular spot for Canadian players..

Yeah for sure... I have heard a lot of bad things about Vegas tourneys tho. They arent well ran. You have ex semi-Pro players playing in one of the lowest levels. A lot of those tourneys are ran by companies who travel around to different cities hosting tourneys. They dont care about the product , they care about making money and that's all.
I talked to a few guys on the team tonight and they said depending on cost and when .. they would love to come up and get their asses handed to them by Canadians.

LEt me know if you have any questions, like a bunch of guys said, you'd have no problem at filling out the roster with CP'ers. Cost for both Calgary + Banff is $125 pp. We then buy all the team booze + some burgers fro a BBQ. Also includes your 3/4 games, prizes, couple drinks + burger from the league. Its pretty cheap.
If you just handle the tourney fees its probably about $50-$75pp.

I have no problem playing with CP'ers but I would like my guys down here to experience Calgary. Like I said Calgary is why I started playing hockey and not to mention I just love the city. FlamesRule, can you send me estimated dates? What rink(s) its going to be at . I would like to get a psuedo idea of hotel/tourney cost. My wife says we should find one in early July so we can go to Stampede but I wouldnt think there would be to many Adult Tourneys going on at that time.

I just got an email from a guy in Calgary. There is a tourney Dec 27-29th in Calgary. My team wont be able to make it with this short of notice but I will actually already be in town for Christmas holiday. Would anyone be interested in putting together a team ? 10 guys and a goalie ? PM me if interested. The guy is sending me more details and I will forward them as soon as I get them.

We have gone to Vegas for a tourney in March for the last 6 years or so. I wouldnt say it isnt ran well, but there have been years where the teams are mismatched. But it is hard to gauge skill level of a team over the phone/email. Its put on by California Hockey Productions, and its always been a good time. And besides... its Vegas... who cares if you win or not??

Oh for sure... I am just going on what a couple teams have told me . They prob just ran into a few really good teams. We played in the 4th lowest division out of 5 in a tourney and we had to play a team that had 6 Major Junior players. Not only did we have to play them , but we had to play them twice. It was a serious beat down both times. I can see why something like that would leave a bad taste in a team's mouth. I would love to play in Vegas . However if I go to Vegas, I would rather gamble than play hockey HA!
Pm'd the people who had expressed interest in playing in a tourney earlier in the thread.
