I have yet to see a self check out that lets you feed more than 1 coin at a time.

I wonder why the Bank of Canada doesn't put those machines up somewhere too. Charge a small fee, but the real savings for the gov't would be how much fewer coins they need to produce each year. I know I'm not alone in having more than 1 roll's worth of coins sitting at home in a jar.

I spend my coins as I get 'em. It's not hard. I rarely have more than about 75 cents on me. Problem solved. Why do people use bills all the time and ignore the coins? I don't understand, but then I am the MoneyGuy.

I try to use my coins also. I hate getting excessive small coins back in my change, so I'll usually supplement my paper money "payment" with the right coins to make the change come out to an even coin, like a quarter. Depending on the math skills of the retail clerk, I've gotten some strange faces, and sometimes the look of enlightenment, when they type it all into the cash register and the change comes to a nice $1.25.

The problem arises when people get home and empty the change from thier pockets and put it in some type of container. From there it starts to accumulate and before long you have a sizeable amount of money in loose change.

Mine stay in my vehicle. In fact i have them sorted and stored in empty film roll containers that are stored in my centre console. One container has all my loonies and toonies that i save for trips to the car wash. The rest i use for small purchases at a conveniece store.

That's not a problem. At night any loose change goes somewhere (on top of the microwave for me) and in the morning I just grab the coins. You just need to get into the habit. I never have a coin problem.

I have a salad bowl full of coins in bottom desk draw. Jusging by the amount of quarters, I wouldn't be surprised if it was over $100, but I'm just too lazy to roll that much coin.

It was for me. I'd always forget to grab the loose change when heading out the door and then when i had a need for it, well, you know

I have a drawer that is getting difficult to open because it is heavy with change. Haven't emptied it in a couple years.

I've thought of just putting it all into a canvas bag or something and leaving it for the bums that search our trash for bottles, but then I mentally pictured some poor guy at the liquor store confronted with counting it all to pay for a cartful of vodka.

I think i saw one of these machines in the Canadian Tire in Richmond square. I was already out the door so i don't know for sure. can anyone else confirm or dispel this.

Yes, that would be the one. It charges just under 10%, a little slow but handled all my foreign change well. I would have posted this earlier, but with the spam post being removed about it's location, I'd let someone else do it

Elbor river casino will do it. But I don't think it accepts dimes or pennies. I took about $700 there a few years back - post reno elbow river casino. Good luck

FYI - I noticed they installed a coin eating machine at Canadian Tire Westhills. Not sure what cut it takes, but it may be in more than one Canadian Tire

I heard of a slum-lord who use to go to Studio 82 and put all his Laundry-machine money into the VLT's there. He'd pull the handle once or twice, then cash-out for a receipt, which he'd turn in at the bar for some paper currency.

I don't know what you'd do with the small change, though.

Anyone know a place that has a coin counter? Safeway removed all theirs and I just realized I have bags and bags of coins I probably should do something with, other than "making it hail" on a homeless dude.

Sobeys has them, Well,at least the one in Country Hills does.

Just go to a dollar store and by rolls and do it yourself. It's actually satisfying seeing the rolls fill up.

There was mention about a BMO in the NW having a coin counter. It was part of a plea of a banned user trying to come back, so take it for what it is worth.
