Last week on CBC Radio 1 they were talking about snow before Haloween. Only 2 times in the previous 70 years or some such have we not had a snowfall before halloween.
It is the norm to have one, and if it miraculously doesn't happen, we should all rejoice.

3. Slush brown - The crappy look after some decent weather throughout the winter/early spring. The city seriously looks like ####, but usually still has enough snow around to give it at least a little bit of life
4. Brown brown - The look to the city for a good chunk of the year. No snow, no green, no life. Just brown grass, brown, dead trees, grey streets and grey buildings. Just butt ugly.
Our two week fall season has passed and our #4 look is taking over. Bring on the snow!

Last year, on Oct. 25 or 26 I believe:
Unfortunately, my beautiful but aging and gravely ill little sprite Abby, pictured here, passed away two days later. But . . . . . she loved days like this.

By the way, this is what it looked like up in the Highwood Pass two weeks ago . . . . Ptarmigan Cirque would be across the way, amidst the mountains.

Oh yes, the good old Wiwaxy 500. That has to be the scariest time to ever go skiing/boarding.

Count me out from those who love winter. Once you live in a tropical place for the winter, it's really tough to come back and endure this again. Therefore, I kick myself for enjoying a winter away from Calgary - that was a stupid move lol . . .

The Weather Network is saying a high of 10 Sunday with less than a cm of snow, so it'll be fine.
If it snows at Moose Mountain I'm going to be super pissed off, because it means I got my first new bike in 13 years 5 days before the trails were done.
DON'T DO IT SNOW!!!

Kids are begging for snow.......usually get at least some snow by September year in year out.....I would say this is the best fall I can remember for being able to do things outdoors without having to really gear up. This is the latest I have ever extended my mountain biking season and on October 14, 2009 I was XC skiing within the city for some perspective. I would imagine I will be biking singletrack into November and won't even bring out the skiis until mid November? What is more surprising is that there hasn't been a thread about the amazing fall we have had. Nevermind the snow there has been hardly any wind/rain either. I think the average temperature this time of year is 10 degrees and I think we will be above that for the next few days.

That is a stunning picture. I'm not always fond of snow but when you see it in a setting like this it really makes you realize how beautiful it can be.

That's unfortunate news. I have a tee time for 11:00am on Sunday.

Cowperson could take a picture of one of his pups eating a diaper and it would the most beautiful thing I've seen that day.

I think Mrs. Cowperson and I can agree, that if Pete & Ruby (below two weeks ago) hadn't come along as the last year progressed, we both probably would have gone insane . . . . .
That's life . . . . . or "you'll learn the bitterness of life one day" as one Chinese mother admonished her 16 year-old ner-do-well daughter in "Last Train Home," a brilliant documentary on the new China I watched recently.

Summer is better than winter but the latter always comes and I'm not someone to sit inside when it does. I'm looking forward to the snow. The dogs love it. All of them. For however long they're here.
