As far as specs go, it seems more in line with last year's Nook Color than the Fire. Weighing in at 14.2 ounces, the Vox has 8GB of internal memory, plus a microSD card slot for adding cards up to 32GB. It's a Wi-Fi-only device with no mention of Bluetooth. The multitouch screen seems decent enough with 1,024x600-pixel resolution and an antiglare coating, but what puts the Vox behind the Fire is its 800Mhz processor, which is the same speed as the processor found in the current Nook Color....

....The best way to describe this is as a more open, generic-looking version of the Nook Color

You dont find it redundant having 2 devices so close in size and weight? I have a 13" MacBookPro and find even that is not that much bigger than my ipad2.

I too have an 11" Air, and an iPad 2. I use them for completely different things, and both get used a significant amount!

Not really. The iPad still isn't there for back end business purposes. Heck, using a mac in general for business is still a tough sell, but I am getting it to work for my needs, since 90% of what I use it for is just basic spreadsheets, graphs, email, and word processing applications.

iPad is awesome though for showing brochures to customers and shutting up unruly kids, but that's about it at this point.

^ You could always switch to the Playbook and have the best of both worlds....although its not really en vogue at this point!

Thats what i find too. I still see the ipad best used for reading info and very light text input. Otherwise even if i have to type something moderately big i use my macbook cause its less hassle and can type much faster as opposed to just using index fingers to type. I just wish there was a way to upload pics from youre ipad 2 to online, its annoying.

Do you mean pics you took? The Icloud does that just fine! Or you can use dropbox. For typing why not just get a bluetooth keyboard or zagg mate

When I launched my blackberry at a brick wall some 3 and a half years ago for freezing for the fourth time in 1 day, I vowed I would never buy another RIM device ever again. So a playbook is not an option...lol.

Keyboard IMO totally defeats the prupose of the ipad, plus i have a macbook already. I would never carry a keyboard with me with my ipad.

Then why not zagg case for it? That way it protects it and has a keyboard since you need a case anyways

Of course the RIM product probably survived this throw, whereas the apple would've been destroyed!

I'm not an Apple basher though. My wife has the iPad and the kids love it. They can play angry birds (or mad birds as they call it) till their little hearts are content. Unfortunately the playbook doesn't have that though, so I'm stuck with surfing CP while they do that sort of thing!

I'm thinking of buying a new Kobo Vox, and I need it for November 5th. Futureshop states that the release date is "estimated Oct 28". Should I pre-order one from them if I need it a week later (as a gift)? Anyone know what my best bet is for getting one of these soon after it's released?

I'd preorder it and if it doesn't arrive in time get it from best buy and save the receipt. Then return the delivered one to best buy once it arrives.

That Kobo Vox looks sweet. Gingerbread 2.3, 7" for under $200...can't go wrong really. Think I might have to pick one up.

Nope, not routinely. I did manage to get into some horrible looping crash though - Safari crashed, and when I tried to launch it, it would try and restore the tab that crashed it, lather, rinse, repeat.

Reseting cookies/cache/temporary files in Settings fixed me up though.

Hasn't happened since.

Im getting it with ipad2 and its really pissing me off! Looked online and tons of people who updated to ios5 are having the same issues. It seems to happen alot when inputting text onna forum like right now. Im almost tempted to take mine to apple and ask for a new one with ios 4 on cause i never have crashing on that.

Right now honestly my ipad is un usable.

Looked online and apparently you can restore back to ios4 on here. Anyone try this yet?

RIM confirms delay of Playbook 2.0 OS update (which features revolutionary features such as email) to February. No timetable on BBM for Playbook.

Looks like the Playbook won't get an update until next year (or ever? I wonder if they will even bother to followthrough given the small user base.)

http://business.financialpost.com/20...aybook-update/

Users of the first BlackBerry tablet from Research In Motion Ltd. will have to wait until at least next year before a long-promised, highly desired new software update is delivered.

In a blog post published on the Waterloo, Ont.-based company’s website late Tuesday evening, RIM said version 2.0 of the BlackBerry PlayBook operating system would not be released until February 2012. Even then, the software will ship without support for BlackBerry Messenger (BBM); a key feature of the company’s line of smartphones and an important driver of BlackBerry demand.
