That loyalty has more to do with the Liberal's chasing any interest in voting for them away as opposed to any Liberal election promise.
The Libs took the west for granted time and time again, and they've paid for it every time, its just never effected them in the poles to to our arcane electorial system until now

I don't necessarily agree with that in all cases, but in some cases there are bigger pictures that need to be looked at.

Major props out to Danielle Roberts for running a great campaign. She definately deserved more than she got, and I totally feel that if Teale Bondaroff wasn't running for the NDP, the youth vote in the riding would've swayed more towards Roberts and she'd have gotten ~15%.

True enough, but honestly, when was the last time the Liberals ever did anything for Alberta? When you get treated like crap by the "ruling party" from the day you entered confederation as a province, dont expect the electorate to care the "ruling party" much.
The NDP are just way too far to the left to be a realistic possibility.

Holding your nose, maybe but when you have to go swimming in it, I draw the line.

Layton, finally decides to speak not like a puppet...but he knows he can twidle his thumbs, because he really holds no power anymore.
Also, good to see him shout down the boos for Harper. Maybe the NDP headquarters was upset about the Leafs (or Oliers?).
Liberal headquarters didn't boo, and the CPC headquarters also didn't boo Paul Martin.

No, it isnt that bad here. But, it isnt that bad because Albertans have scratched and clawed for everything we have. From having to fight for our constitutional rights to our resources that we were illegally denied until the 30s, to fighting to overcome the NEP, to fighting the "We hate Alberta" attitude of the modern Liberals and Bloq, the only people who have ever looked out for Alberta are Albertans.
If the Liberals ever want to see anything but the odd Alberta riding go red, they have to start mending fences. Until they do so, don't expect things to change much.

Very nice speech by Harper.
Major theme? Inclusiveness. Build a Canada for all Canadians. I love it!

I feel bad for Preston Manning. So many years of trying and now Harper the upstart whom he was with odds with in earlier years does it.
Part of me feels like I've missed the boat with getting some kind of job with the Conservative Party though. I had opportunties to submit my resume to Manning's office and also had the same profs at school that Harper did that are part of his campaign and close advisors.

I generally vote left of centre [NDP this time] but I'm pretty happy Harper got in with a minority. Liberals had to go and now Harper has his chance to prove himself. He has a tough row to hoe and all his political skills will be needed. I'm hoping he does well.
Oh yeah, 1000 posts

seriously though, you act as if Alberta has just been repeatedly raped by the Liberals, like they just **** on this Province like it is the sewage of the country...do you honestly think a liberal government has never done anything for Alberta? Anything? Like they just hate our guts and our existence? I'm not even really a liberal supporter, and I think there have been some issues, but you always sound so extreme the way you describe it. I've been an Albertan for 24 years and never felt that extremely neglected or abused by the liberal party.

As someone who has lived in Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta, and BC, I can say that I never sensed any anti-Alberta sentiment in any province that I lived in. Anti-Easterner sentiment is strong in Alberta, however. It borders on hate mongering a lot of the time and has little basis in fact.
As for never looking out for Alberta, well, Alberta is lucky that it can stand on it's own. That has as much to do with oil as anything. People in other parts of Canada work just as hard for less.
As a side note, a couple weeks back, it was mentioned by an Alberta politician on CBC radio when asked if he thought the federal government would try dipping into Alberta's oil money, he said that the federal government already has access to some because they spent/invested over $8 billion in developing Alberta's oil industry. That doesn't sound like a federal government ignoring Alberta's interests.

Living in southern alberta during the mad cow scare, I assure you that the liberals didn't really give a hoot regarding the region losing tons of money. They let it slide like the softwood lumber dispute.

Actually, he's always closed his speeches with that. The liberals on nodice have been making an issue of that for some time now.

Well, he has to understand that he will face another election in about 2 years. As such, he will most likely only put forward the bills that will garner further support. Lowering the GST, putting forward bills to stop corruption, etc. You won't see any major changes until after that.

The softwood lumber dispute affects Eastern Canada, so I guess they just hate everyone equally then.
And what could they really do about BSE?

Lets not forget that the Liberal party thought it would be just fine to steal from Alberta under a policy facade called the NEP in the early 80s.
The Liberals do not give a damn about anything west of Ontario and never have
