Steep amount for the Raiders to give up.
But Palmer is better than any recent QB the Raiders since Gannon. Look at the history of who the Raiders have had it is not pretty. JC was finally getting comfortable but if any NFL fan said who would you rather have between the 2. Its no contest Palmer.
Raiders and in particular Hue Jackson have taken a bold step forward JMO. Palmer is 31 and will be under contract to the Raiders for 4 more season I believe.
I would venture to say that Campbell's days are over as a Raider given his contract and not sure but I think he has 1 year left.
I don't like mind the 1st round this year it is to be expected for a Starting QB. But the 1st round next year I hate. We are told this is conditional? Conditional to the Raiders making the playoffs I hope is the condition.
Excited hell yes!
Carson the USC star returns back to Cali. Welcome back Raider Nation has been waiting!!!
I think it would be sweet if he wore his USC#3

I'm pretty surprised by how much Palmer did end up fetching. I suppose the Raiders probably had to pay a premium to get Mike Brown to change his mind.

The Bengal team that won their Division had a decent offensive line and run game, and the defence was pretty good. This Raider team has the run game, I'm not really qualified to give much of an opininon on their lines ability to pass protect though. The Raiders defence though doesn't quite match up to what that Bengals team had. Fart today's Bengals have the NFL's top rated defence in terms of yardage although they've had a sweetheart of a schedule as far as the team defence stat goes.

I suppose Campbell hasn't been able to play a full season as a starting QB so that may have helped make up Jacksons mind. Bold move, I guess we'll see if it pays off. I have my doubts about bringing in a new guy mid season to take over as the leader of a team that was doing okay with the last guy. Palmer doesn't know these guys, and he hasn't been with them all season. I would think there might still be a few guys with loyalties to Campbell in that room. Type of move that seems better suited to the offseason to me.

There's no doubt that the Raiders way overpaid but not too long ago the Cardinals traded their starting CB and a 2nd round pick for Kolb who isn't nearly as good as Palmer or Campbell. The QB market is diffucult to gauge as they are worth what teams are willing to pay and often that's over market value. We just need the Cheifs to roll over for us this week so Palmer can work out he cobwebs on a 5-1 team. I knew blowing that game against the Bills would bite the Raiders in the ass.

The only team coming off a bye this past week who didn't lose was Baltimore. Every other team lost.

I think the Chiefs can likely cover the 3.5 spread...but the Raiders still win the game 13-12, even with Kyle Boller tossing 3 interceptions.

Really though, the conditional first with the caveat of winning a playoff game only happens if Palmer does work out quite well. Although...I'd like to see Jason Campbell be the guy who won the playoff game because Palmer wasn't that effective. If it's a mid to late first and Palmer can have the Raiders competing for the Division every year, than it's not as much as it seems like now. Afterall, theres a few first round picks from years past that the Raiders or any NFL team for that matter with a high pick would have been better off to deal for a proven steady veteran. I'd have much preferred the Chiefs dealt their 2009 first to New England for Richard Seymour than pick Tyson Jackson.

true that he did throw too many pics, but his recievers (T.O and Ocho) ran some pretty sloppy routes and left him out to dry on a few occasions. i believe it was the last game of the year where he had those 2 out of the lineup and he looked pretty good.. hard to say how he will play but the Raiders clearly feel the AFC west is attainable.

I love how Raiders sweeten the pot with the second 1st round pick. It reminded me that's how Daryl Sutter used to work here. It's not enough just to give away the barn....

The thing about trading 1st rounders is now there is a cost assurance. While for the past decade getting one of the top few picks was almost another penalty with the chance of a holdout and/or a guaranteed contract in the multi-millions, now for the first time there is a cap so these first rounders the Raiders are giving up are going to be reasonably priced.

Campbell isn't coming back any time soon, and by the time he does Palmer will have had lots of time to get up to speed while Campbell is rusty. I doubt any players are going to resent Palmer remaining the starter unless things turn really bad from here on out.

Your (Syl's) point about getting a known, solid performer as opposed to taking a chance on a draft pick is fine, but Palmer is a guy who has had knee reconstruction and Tommy John surgery. He also hasn't made the pro-bowl since 2006; he isn't a spring chicken so there is significant risk.

They probably had to do that to get Mike Brown to cave on moving Palmer.

Here is how the trade breaks down

Carson Palmer to the Raiders. Under contract until 2015.

Cincinati gets 1st round pick in 2012 and a conditional 1st round pick in 2013 if the Raiders win a playoff game in 2011. If they do not it is a 2nd round pick.

Palmer as I figured will wear his USC #3 as long time pro bowl punter Lechler wears #9.

NFLN's Rich Eisen just tweeted that it only becomes a first if the Raiders appear in the AFC Championship Game either this or next season.

And I like how Palmer will wear #3. That's how I first remember him back at USC.

Kolb was a somewhat unknown quantity though. His value was based on potential with Campbell and Palmer you know what you are getting.

Oakland Raider sign another Bengal

http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/...hinedum-ndukwe

Lead Cincinati in tackles last season. Hue Jackson apparently has had an eye on him.

Special teamer Boyd has been released by the Raiders.
Raiders are deep at SS and FS so this is interesting.

I like this pick up. He isn't as good as he used to be but instantly becomes the power back the Lions need for short yardage. Plus it helps with Best getting another concussion.

Sounding like the Raiders are going to start Palmer on Sunday against the Chiefs. That pretty much tells Kyle Boller....we're doing everything we can to keep you off the field! Palmer should be fine, KC's pass rush I think ranks behind LSU right now.

Of course Teebus Christ is resurrecting himself from the swamp to start for the Broncos, and two other QB changes. Christian Ponder is taking over from McNabb in Minnesota which has to be the end of Donovan the starting QB, and John Beck whom many Red Skins fans felt should have been starting from day 1, will be taking over in Washington. A.J. Feely, might have to start for the Rams too on Sunday.

Teams who have a guy they can count on starting every game...are still pretty well off in this league I'd say.

It's a great deal for Oakland, because they would have just blown those draft picks anyway!

Oakland seemed to do well with their first rounders every other year. It is just when they go wrong, they go Jamarcus Russel wrong.

Yeah, Oakland's drafting in general hasn't been all that atrocious the last couple of years. Heyward-Bey and Russel were misses but other than that they've been able to grab some productive players.

Not horrible, but pretty close. Gallery and Huff are disappointments considering how high they were drafted (2nd and 7th respectively). Jury is still out on McClain. Run DMC, IMO, has been the only quality pick since Asomougha and Janikowski. To me, the Raiders giving up early picks is like the Flames. Their history of drafting drives the value of a 1st round selection down.

With Davis gone, maybe the scouting and due diligence will extend beyond the combine 40-time and that will improve.
