i'd like too - but i'll just wait a bit and ask the dad the eta on the length of the project - but in the meantime it just totally aggravates me with respect to who in thier right mind does that - if that was my kid i'd be on him to get ti towed to a proper place to work on it, or getting it in my garage......
I wouldn't bother paying them that courtesy because when they don't do anything about it (they've already shown they don't care about their neighbours), it points the finger right at you when you are eventually forced to call the city. Now when they ask you if you called, you can just say nope.
To be fair, isn't the (downtown) core home to many more multiples of people versus these outskirt communities? Are you comparing rates or just absolute numbers of crimes?
I don't care about densities. In truth I just don't want this stuff going on close to my home. I don't want criminals wandering around my neighborhood. I don't want to bump into them on the street while I am walking my dog.
Even when looking at population densities, I still think the core looks high. Does anyone have a good source for population densities in the city.
The cop cars from a couple weeks ago were from them busting that huge grow operation involving 18 houses. One house on the boulevard in New Brighton was closed up, and the sad thing is there were 4 little kids living there that were taken away by social services. There are far too many of these houses in our community. Make sure you know your neighbors. Grow ops are a massive fire hazard and I want to keep my home.

Did NBsince03 just join a flames forum to warn us about community grow ops? With out high community fees you would think all those free loaders in copperfield would be having the grow ops!

Haha no I'm a lifelong Flames fan, but this thread caught my attention so instead of lurking I decided to join and post. Excited to see the Flames waste Edmonton tonight.
I would hate to think the amount of grow ops that are likely in Copperfield, it's just bothersome how many are New Brighton. It seems like a lot. 3 within 2 blocks of my house in the last couple of years.
i live in NB as well - as i had mentioned before, the neighborhood is a powder keg waiting to explode - it is a matter of time!!!! When the folks from the TV news come knocking on my door for my comment I'll be the guy on the news saying "see I told ya so"........
it strikes me as somewhat amusing that there were a couple of ops located on the same street - I wonder if the guys bumped into each other as they were coming and going during whatever hours grow-op guys work at? maybe they traded tips on how to get your plants to flourish using Calgary's hard water, or how to run hallide lights non-stop with attracting attention.....
It is not just NB it is in every new community in Calgary. It is easier to go undetected when your house is just built and you don't have neighbors or have time to build relationships with those around you. Not to mention all the speculators who built homes to flip and couldn't and just rented them out without proper tenant screening to not lose money.
That goes to say build those relationships with the people around your house so you know who and what is living around your block and report anything suspicious to the Police and your property will be fine 99% of the time.
Location: Close enough to make a beer run during a TV timeout

So, what is a person to do if they think there is a grow-op on their street? I know of two houses that seem suspicious. I never see the owners, yards are barely kept up. Houses are always dark; even when I saw somebody go in I saw no lights turn on.
The last thing I want is to meet the neighbours after the cops bust in; only to find out it's just somebody who is house poor or something.
one of my neighbors is not around very much and he has a canuckle head flag hanging in one of his windows - does that qualify as suspicious?
Anyways, it would be interesting to live beside one of these places to see how long it would take before it became obvious that it was being used for questionable purposes.....i'd like to think i'd notice if i was walking along side my house and the neighbor had fiddled with his electrical hookup.

Dont quote me but I think they smash through the foundation and tap into the wiring underground before the electrical panel. There would be no evidence if you were outside.
Went through a home in Deer Run that was super sketchy and had brand new plaster patching under the electrical box and a couple of pieces of plywood covering it. Inspector said that chances were...

Given that the police seem to bust grow up in groups I think they have a lot more just process before busting the door in. I imagine they do things like check enmax usage and do a flyover with the heat cameras long before busting the doors down.
If you're suspicious phone it in and say exactly what you just posted above "I never see the owners, yards are barely kept up. Houses are always dark; even when I saw somebody go in I saw no lights turn on" and let the police take it from there.
Given that we don't see news reports here of the DEA busting in and shooting the family dog I think it's safe to point it out to the cops.

I feel the same way. There's one house on my street where the basement lights were on at night a few nights in a row, with no blinds, so you could see right into the basement and see that there was nothing in there.
...and they had trucks showing up after dark (this was mid summer when it wasn't dark til after 10) with people moving stuff into the house. They definitly made a point of moving whatever it was in after the average family had gone to bed. Then the blinds went up, and now it just looks like any other house on the street.
Part of me wants to say "hey cops, pretty sure there's a grow op at xxx xxx street se". But like you I'd feel pretty crappy if cops burst into their home and I was wrong. I've heard that people can feel the same lingering effects of violation and insecurity from cops bursting into their home as criminals bursting into their home. I guess because it's still the same feeling of people barging into your home when it's supposed to be your safe private place, even if they are the good guys.
