The trade is expected to be completed by deadline. Hue Jackson has a close relationship w Mike Brown and really worked to get Brown to budge

Sounds like close to a done deal. Not sure what could be coming the other way, as I'm not sure the Raiders have many picks left after their 1st round.

Edit: It is official. Apparently the Raiders are going for it now. They have better since they have traded most of their picks from the next draft.

EE is gonna have a stroke when he reads that.
I didn't think Brown would budge unless he got what he wanted and it appears he did. Shows how valuable real QB's are though....and paying that price means that they expect Palmer to be the starter for a good long while i would assume.
Actually a good deal for both sides IMO as it addresses the Raiders biggest weakness and allows the Bengals to shore up what they have with Daulton moving forward.

Carson Palmer has done nothing in recent years to warrant a 1st rounder. I would be pissed if I was a Raider fan.

Oakland and Cincinnati are on the verge of completing one of the NFL's biggest trade-deadline deals in decades, with the Raiders acquiring holdout quarterback Carson Palmer from the Bengals in exchange for a two first-round picks, according to sources familiar with the deal.
The first first-round pick is in 2012 and the other is a conditional first-round pick in 2013.

Carson Palmer to the Raiders now official. Compensation expected to be a 1st in 2012 and a conditional 1st in 2013

the conditional first might be winning the super bowl, no one knows
either way, all ready talked myself in to it
the pick is going to be in the 15-22 range most likely this year, hopefully in the round in 2013
The Seymour trade got ripped as well, and for the last 2 years it's been a steal for the Raiders

the ghost of Al Davis is alive and well it seems...Palmer will be better than anything else they could field so for that reason it will help them for now....but this also means they have no draft picks til round 5 next year sans a couple compensatory picks they may get from losing ufa's.
Good move by Brown as well....gets something for his team from an asset that was doing absolutely nothing for them.

Why do people keep saying this?
Last year was awful...for that whole team, but the previous season the Bengals won that division with Baltimore and Pittsburgh in it....yes they got thumped when they played the Jets....but the whole team was bad in that game

Yeah I'm not too happy but at least the Raiders can salvage the season. Raiders will head into the bye week 4-3 (we will lose to the Chiefs with Boller starting) and if Palmer can pick up the offense fast enough the Raiders could finish strong. Long term though it sucks. I realize that the team has a surplus of receivers and running backs but those 1st round picks are going to be needed to supplement the defense which IMO is the teams weakness. To top it off there's no garantee Palmer is an upgrade on Campbell especially based on recent performance so the Raiders could be giving up the farm for a player of the level they could have signed in the offseason.
I guess I could assimilate this to the Flames trading a couple of 1st round picks for Spezza. Sure it would be okay this year and next year but down the road the team would be paying dearly for short term gain and like with Palmer we know Spezza has shortcomings so it's not even garanteed to be a homerun in the present.
I have to believe Al Davis would never have made this deal as this is all Hue Jackson. Oh well I'll just have to be happy the season may not be meaningless now as with Boller starting it would be.
If I'm a Bengals fan it's definately an early Christmas. Great trade for them.

Yeah there's no reason to pout as at least it brings some short term excitement. If Palmer turns out to be a bust though it will suck because the Raiders were just on the right track and this would set them back.

I dunno about that....it was trademark Davis to trade picks for older players...some worked and other didnt, but the man was never shy about targetting other teams extra pieces particularly older and expensive ones.

The only reason the Bengals made the playoffs that year was because they had one of the easiest schedules in NFL history and a solid defense. Palmer's numbers that year were incredibly average.
