That is all.
Okay, you go on pretending to know how food vendors operate here and I'll go on seeing every single vendor set up in the exact same location, regardless of street closures etc., every day for the past 3 years. That's probably just a coincidence though right?

Why don't you check the actual rules?

I think this article sheds some good light on the Street Vending in New York, and how mobility doesn't seem to be a problem for steet vendors. Except the stubborn ones who don't want to move off their 'turf', which is all I can assume the Egyptian in question is doing.

Heh. I was listening to Bill Maher's show while swimming this morning and he akinned the 'movement' to the hippies. Idealists that nobody knew what the heck they stood for. Some were anti-war, some were anti-establishment, some were anti-Johnsson/Nixon... but what they actually stood for was somewhat of a mystery.

But he then compared this with the Tea Party which has clear demands (lower taxes, balance the budget, but don't touch the military, medicare or social security) that have absolutely no basis in reality. Maybe it is enough to say "there is a huge problem and we're not smart enough to have all the answers".

So the 'occupiers' are serving a higher moral purpose than Gandhi?

Absolutely. I don't think they are as effective, realistic, organized, intelligent or dedicated. But I do believe that their cause is more important than the independence of India.

Protesters in Calgary post plea for toiletries and condoms on Facebook:

http://www.calgarysun.com/2011/10/17...es-and-condoms

I've refrained from using the Hippies label up to this point but . . . . . it is what it is.

Sorry if you can't afford condoms you probably shouldn't be boning, if you can't afford toilet paper, maybe get yourself a job.

I'm all for protesting and freedom of speech. I'm also very much in support of the Occupy movement in the US, especially from what I've seen the OccupyKstreet people doing here in DC. It's growing by leaps and bounds since I went there last week and people are really get behind the underlying roots of the cause....

That being said, I agree the Occupy Calgary people just need to stop.

This is going to sound harsh and I respect their right to assemble and make a statement, but they're really undermining what the occupy movement is in the States. Let's be honest things are pretty good in Canada. This generation of Canadian youth coming up isn't as nearly behind the 8-ball as their southern counter parts. Sure things aren't 100% perfect in Canada, but they are decent and there is enough opportunity in the country to know that things there is decent future. The next generation of Canadians aren't facing crushing student load debt (not as much as in the states), $5,000 worth of health insurance a year and a high unemployment rate. Things are pretty good up in Canada, so by having a lame protest that no one really understands to audience which doesn't have a similar reference point, is really undermining what is going on in the US.

If they want to support the Occupy movement in the US. Donate a days worth of food or help in some other way. Don't dilute the message with something that isn't applicable to what's going on down south.

If you don't support these protesters then unfortunately you are naive about what is happening to the worlds economic state right now and shouldn't be commenting, change is coming whether you like it or not. Either we grab it by the horns how and lead the change in a better direction or you sit back like a sheep and watch things continue to deteriorate.

As for the protesters in New York making it difficult for people to get to work on time? Big deal, there are much larger issues at play here and unfortunately many people are oblivious to the fact that we are on schedule for and well on our way into the next great depression. Most of us are too young to even comprehend what that means, but do some research and try to wrap your brain around the facts before criticizing the next "hippy" you see out there trying to make a difference. Raising awareness is the first step towards fixing things.

Here's a propaganda piece for the Occupy movements. Do I agree with it? Not necessarily, but it's fun to atleast share videos in this thread relating to this topic.

I do agree with the Ron Paul cameo at the end, though... probably the smartest Republican candidate running for that party right now. He reminds me of Nenshi in ways with his movement, his message and his initial underground popularity.

This is probably the best written piece of crap in this thread, by a hippy, so far.

Thank you for the laugh. Now, go get a job.

He's probably just upset that nobody will give him a condom, and even if someone did, no opportunity to use it.

For people who think everything is just wonderful in Canada and that we dont have economic problems like the United States, or dont have any cases of corporate greed and corruption-This video is for you. For the folks who scoff, and make sarcastic remarks about the "evil corporations" this video is for you. This is just ONE of the many examples of how profits come first, before peoples humanity and livelihoods.

This is when I really start getting really angry at this whole movement, when they start asking for hand outs & making themselves a charity case.

Yes, you have every right in the world to assemble and protest and speak your mind. But when you start playing the victim because of your decision to do so you've cross the line between exercising your own freedoms and infringing on others.

Need toilet paper? GO BUY SOME.

You have CHOSEN to camp out on the street instead of going to work that day, fine, but don't think you can take food/support out of the hands of the truly needy so you can take a vacation from your day to day life.

What's next? Are they going to be calling up the mustard seed and say "hey we could really use some food down here, yeah we know you've got 100+ homeless to feed today as well, but we're protesters man, you should support our cause"

tl;dr: hippies man, get a job, get off my lawn, etc.
