Favorite club was the Bank on 7th ave. Members only back in the day.
Coconut Joe's, which was The Rave before that (and is now sadly a frickin daycare) along with that entire block was always a good time. Eddy's in the Crowchild Inn was within staggering distance from my house and where I grew up so it got my early drinking money.

Loved the Barley Mill back in the day, both the southside and downtown ones.

Millenium drinks at The Taz on Friday nights were super cheap.
Metro on Thursdays with those blue circle drink vouchers.
Douie Stevens on Mondays for 50 cent draft.
Obviously, 25 cent draft night at Cowboys on Thursdays.
Fox NE had $6 jugs of beer on Mondays and Saturdays.
Outlaws I think was $1 highball till 10pm.
But I'd have to say my favourite was Friday nights at the Palace.

Wow, I bet I've been in most of the places previously mentioned, particularly the older ones. Even the strip clubs.
I just recently found out that they had knocked down The Crow, and it saddened me, even though I hadn't been in there since I was 16.
I never liked going to Dooie Stevens, The National Hotel, the place in behind the Crossroads {can never remember the name}, or the Cecil due to the large number of fights that used to break out whenever I was there.
I remember Rock City as being the first place I was ever ID'd.
I remember most of the old strip clubs. My favourites being The Penthouse Club {where me and a couple of buddies had a front and center view of a near murder back about 1989}, and the Spotlight.
I could have sworn Nirvana played the Republik about 1990. I know Husker Du played the old Calgarian Hotel on 8th about 1986.
And frankly I am disappointed that this thread is 4 pages long and nobody has brought up The Old Scotch.
*or the BoHo.

I used to work the door at the Night Gallery, the Works and the Castle Pub. Some good times back in the day. $4.50 happy hour pitchers and staff and friends always got happy hour prices.

When did The Rave become Coconut Joe's? I remember Joe's from way back, but never the Rave? I turned 18 right around when we won the cup, and it was Joe's then.

I remember the BoHo. Drink all night for cheap and then get off sales out the back door at 3am. Went to the Rattlesnake Saloon off McLeod Trail too. Lots of beautiful women at the Rattlesnake not so much at the BoHo.
Haven't been down south in sometime. Is the King's Head still there?. I think it was McLeod and 90th Ave south.

Used to live across the street from the back alley after watching all the fights at that place I'll never go in there used to be a great area if all you wanted to do was bar hop seven different places to drink all you had to do was walk less than 100 meters to the next place.

What was the place that used to be in the hotel on 16th avenue across from North Hill mall that got demolished? Went there a few times, it had a nice mix of colourful characters and teens out for a night of drinking.

Wow, 12 years ago what was I doing?
at 17-19 it was probably Fox, Three Cheers, Moose's, The Den, Max's, Billy Mac's, Shanks, Stones, the Palace, Senior Frogs.
From 19-23 it was probably Cowboys, outlaws, palace (before it smelt like barf), the capital, Embassy.
Wednesday was Outlaws then Cowboys on the way home
Thursday Cowboys
Friday - off or Den
Saturday Cowboys with wanders back and forth between the Capital and the Palace.
I remember that Bar Fotze is talking about, La Jolla, I grew up a block away and remember the streets being full of drunks after it closed. I was probably 12-13 at the time. I remember That much music VJ going once, the black guy with the dreads. . .

been to most of the names mentioned thus far...but Backstreet was my home away from home. IMO the best happy hour in town and live music every night of the week. Good times.

I used to enjoy a lot of the bars mentioned here. A particular favourite was The Drink on Friday nights after work. Had a lot of fun at Senor Frogs as well.

The Drum & Monkey location was, for a short time, a punk bar (maybe 97-99, somewhere in that time frame I think)..what was that place called?

I spent alot of time at Don Cherrys on Macleod South when I was 18. Other favourites were the Back Alley, anywhere on Electric Ave, the Bull & Finch, Peanuts occasionally, and more time at Spaguccis than I'd like to remember.
