Default iPhone 3GS help!

Hello CP. I need help from the vast knowledge of CP posters again

I have an issue with my iPhone 3GS
Yesterday, I let my eight month old son hold my iPhone for a bit and now the volume does not work. None of the songs on my iTunes work and all my videos no longer have sound. I don’t’ care about the iTunes, but the no volume on my videos pisses me off since all the videos are of my kids.

When my phone rings, it does make a sound so the whole phones speakers isn’t shot.
I’m guessing he slobbered over it and some of the liquid got inside the phone. He wasn’t able to unlock it and when I got the phone back, it was soaked so that is the only thing I can think of.
Even when I turn up the volume on iTunes or the videos, there isn’t even the bar that goes to the right. Its like turning up the volume is no longer an option on my phone

Has anyone else had this problem before? Is there anything I can do to fix this? Or will I most likely have to take it to Apple?

Thanks again in advance CP!

Put it in rice for a couple days to dry it out.

With headphones plugged in, do you get the software slider for volume control?

I'm a technophobe, but yeah you ought to try the headphones. I had a similar speaker problem with a Sony Ericsson - no water was involved, it was just the crappiest phone in the history of phones. But it worked with headphones - for a while, then it kept rebooting itself for no reason, then it stopped working whenever a call was important.

Then I had to throw it against a wall and stomp on the remnants. But I'm no hothead - I calmly took the memory card out first.

You seem most worried about the videos, but that shouldn't be a problem. You could always e-mail them to yourself and watch them on your PC or upload them to youtube.

Goodluck

If you plug in/unplug the headphones a bunch of times, that might restore the volume control when you're on internal speaker only - it could be that the phone is having issues detecting whether the headphones are plugged in or not.

From the OP's original description, I would say that you are correct. Now that I think about it, I had the exact same problem on my iPhone as well. Rebooting the phone did the trick in my case though.
