Toronto Maple Leafs 2011/2012 October Update
We as a team have been extremely busy this last 4 months since we have had new management in place. The ownership supported us to go out and sign what we considered the two biggest fish in the market this UFA - Mark Striet and Dwayne Roloson. Since then we have traded away Jeff Carter not because we wanted to but the offer we had on the table justified the move. Since then we have been trying to make moves but we have had a lot of deals coming close to fruitition.
It has been a long summer and we are excited to be playing some hockey finally. When the management took over we communicated our plans." Our goal is to win and win as soon as possible without compromising our future." We are excited to say, we feel we are making progress. Winning takes a commitment to excellence and sometimes that commitment has to last for a long time before we start seeing fruits of our effort. When we took over there was a serious need for help as we were the least desirable franchise in the league. Now in a result oriented business we have to careful when judging progress. We cant be too quick to right effort off and we cant be tooting horns of success when you are still at the bottom of the pile.
We are working on making this team better. We have had a few dissapointments along the way- like we knew we would. We have identified ourselves what this team needs in order to make progress:
On the forward ranks - We need a couple of top 6 RW. We need a top 6 , bottom 6 C. We need a bottom 6 LW.
On the blueline - We need 3 more top 4 Dmen.
In net - We feel we are strong here and could be open to downgrading.
We will try address this but that would be some sort of incredible feat so we wait and see what we can do this season. Look for us to be extremely busy on the trade market.
We feel there are a few players on the AHL that we feel are just casualties of the numbers game. We are excited about a few players down there. It is a very young group down there. A lot of players are rookies to the AHL. We await to see how it all plays down. Key young players - Casey Cizikas, Ben Smith and Justin Falk
As a mangement we are more than open to all questions/ opinions from our fans. So we want your opinion on where the team is, how we got here and what our assesment is of our team.
