Dexter's dad during the football game was pretty funny as well.

I found this scene was placed in the opener to show you how Dexter has been since Lumen has left and he is getting back to his life.
Showing him taking out 2 people at once with the cross-arm needles is just how confidant Dexter is now and we have to accept that for this new season.

Entertaining season opener, Season 5 (start) was slow (for obvious reasons)

Maybe it's because I went from Breaking Bad to Dexter, but I found tonight's episode very dull.
Debra being LT could bring up some good storylines though. I like that part, but not much else.

ah good i'm not alone
I thought the season opener was pretty ho hum too. Maybe the novelty has worn off...I'll give it a few more episodes though. Deb getting promoted wasn't something I saw coming, and it's definitely got my interest for the next couple episodes, but the show doesn't have the same appeal to me that it used to.

I liked Mos Def's character and hope that he has a recurring role and that it is not just a one off.
They're taking their time developing the Hanks/Olmos thing, but I'm guessing it will pay off. Dexter always does.
FTR...I think they set the bar so high in season 4 that it makes it very difficult to wow people. That season, perhaps, is the best season of a television show in history. That's a lot to live up to.

Please see anyone of the 4 seasons of Breaking Bad. Thanks. Makes Dexter look like a cheesy soap opera.

Why even need to compare them, just watch the damn shows if you like it. People annoy me.
I'm liking it...Hanks/Olmos were very strong in the church and their story is just starting, give it time and it will rise to the occasion. Honestly though I could do without Debra, she still seems stuck in season 1 even though she's made it Lieutenant.

I don't think Mos Def's character is a one off. I'm sure Dexter will need him to take down Hanks/Olmos.
Looking forward to a future season of Debra hunting down her brother.

Mos Def is listed as being in four episodes of Dexter, so far.
I just finished the first two episodes and while I didn't hate them, I wasn't terribly blown away either. There were things I liked in each episode, but overall, they were okay. I'll definitely keep watching as the series has earned the benefit of the doubt.
I wonder how Deb will do as LT. I am sick of both Angel and Laguerta.
I was not a fan of the acting in the scene between Almos and Hanks, when he was crying. Kinda bad actually, and I don't typically mind either actor.

Kind of same old, same old. And the voice-overs are really becoming grating - forcing Hall to explain everything like the audience is composed of total idiots when his acting could do the same work in most scenes. That's the worst part of the show, it doesn't really engage your brain because everything is constantly being spelled out.
There should be an alternate version of the show without the voice-overs. It would be a revelation.
The religious theme is completely tired. Something needs to change in the basic parameters of the show.
I miss Darla. The fans who hated her can go to hell.

Do you mean Lila?
If so, she got all sorts of naked in the last season of Spartacus.

Sorry, I meant Julie Benz. The wife. Can't remember her name, so I use her Buffy character name inside my own mind. Anyway, she's lovely but a lot of fans hated her, because they want Dexter to run free.
Even Xena isn't enough to compel me to watch Spartacus, it seems. I did check out her breasts in some clips though - felt like a circle closed.

Rita was her name. The wife. Yeah, I liked her as well, but we're in the minority.
Lila was the crazy British chick in Season 2.

One thing I saw suggested after last week's episode was the idea that Olmos' character could be to Hanks' character what Harry is to Dexter.
I had already watched the first episode when I read that, so I didn't go back to re-watch, but I did pay attention this week to see if we ever saw him interact with anything that made it obvious he's physically present.
In the scene with the mannequins, he never helps Hanks carry any of them, but we do see him pick up the head...Then, a couple of scenes later, when Dexter is playing with Harrison, we see Harry holding one of Harrison's toys, so that doesn't exclude Olmos from being a figment of Hanks' imagination (same with the punishment scene).

I will at some point, but when you have to use terms like 'cheesy soap opera' to make the other show seem better I wouldn't expect it to be anywhere near what you are trying to portray.

That scene was terrible. The only time you're supposed to laugh during a tear-filled apology is a comedic sitcom episode.

I didn't like last nights episode. Was hoping the show would carry the momentum of the opener but it flopped into a dud. Hoping the next episode gets better.
Masouka's intern is a babe though!

Lousy start to the season. Maybe I too am guilty for putting it up against Breaking Bad, but I am just not into Dexter anymore.
