Default Need engagement ideas and tips please

Yea, I'm gonna do it. I have $500 to spend and I'm hoping to get something decent. I've been looking at bidz.com and am alittle unsure on how big the center gem needs to be.

My girlfriend wants a white gold, decent size diamond. Not a chip in her words, where she dosen't want to be embarrassed to show it off. What is a decent size diamond? Over .5 carat a decent non-chip size or can it be abit smaller?

I have a pretty good idea about the quality I want. I'm thinking it has to be at least SI-1 - SI-2 flawless diamond with a nice H or higher color. Is this right?

I know her size but can I get it resized if it's not the right size? and how much for that?

Any other tips on buying an engagement ring would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Check out this one I'm interested in:

http://www.bidz.com/product/DARLINGS...nuine/93328161

Will I have to pay duty on the appraised cost once it comes across border?? Can I have it re-sized to the needed size?

I don't think you can get anything "legitimate" that's decent for $500...

Hate to break it to you, but a $500 ring falls in to the embarrassed to show it off category. Even $500 for just the diamond is going to be rather small.

Don't blow all your money on the ring, save some of that $500 for the wedding.

Not really. I paid $650 for the ring my wife wanted and she's more then happy to show it off.

good luck with the $500.00, while guys compare dick sizes, girls compare diamond sizes, and $500.00 will probably put her in the embarressed to show it area.

You might as well order a fake diamond ring off of the internet.

In otherwards, if you buy her the wrong ring, she's going to start dating the pool boy to spite you.

a great place to get information and advice:

http://www.pricescope.com/forum/rockytalky/

and a highly recommended online retailer, who ships to Canada (including proper insurance) for free

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/

A quick glance at their diamond inventory, looks like you might be able to get a 14k white gold 0.4-0.45 carrat diamond solitaire, with your desired specs for close to $1000

Its sort of sad that $500 is so widely considered "not good enough". Some people probably have a lot more important places for there money than a chunk of rock stuck to a chunk of salvage scrap.

I recommend this: http://www.costco.ca/Browse/ProductS...s=2&lang=en-CA

Seriously though, Costco does have some decent stuff/prices, might be worth checking out.

If you are serious I have an engagement ring i'm trying to sell. It's been appraised by a gemologist and everything.

PM me and I can get you details, cost, and pictures

It's gonna cost over your $500 bucks but it's a hell of a deal and NEGOTIABLE!

I second blue nile. Out of all my buddies, I probably spent on the lower end ($3800) but my wife has the biggest diamond (0.91)

Yeah, I've wondered that - 3 months? 6 months? Before or after tax? Bonus included?
