I don't think Data was ever affected, he just took Tasha up on her offer.
I saw the episode not too long ago. He was definitely acting drunk afterwards.
I found this quote online to help explain it, I think:
"We are more alike than unlike, my dear captain. I have pores. Humans have pores. I have fingerprints. Humans have fingerprints. My chemical nutrients are like your blood. If you prick me, do I not... leak?" http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/The_...morable_Quotes
Inhibitions are sometimes social. Seeing others lose inhibitions does a great deal towards helping one lose their own inhibitions. So, maybe, Data wasn't affected, but just went along socially with everyone else on the ship?

He wasn't until he went with Tasha Yar into her room. Guess some parts of him are more human than others?
Lt. Tasha Yar: What I want now is gentleness. And joy... and love. From you, Data; you are fully functional, aren't you? Lt. Cmdr. Data: Of course, but... Lt. Tasha Yar: How fully? Lt. Cmdr. Data: In every way, of course. I am programed in multiple techniques. A broad variety of pleasuring. Lt. Tasha Yar: Oh! You jewel, that's exactly what I hoped!

Denise Crosby was just horrible, only she could take a scene that should be sexy and make her character more wooden then Data was supposed to be.
I did a double take when that letter I posted showed her as the only candidate to play Troi. Troi was a terrible character, and Denise Crosby would have made it even worse. She was the perfect warrior bitch though. It's almost a shame she left the show, but OTOH, Worf was more interesting.
At the time, Patrick Stewart's contract was expiring and they didn't know if he would come back so there was a possibility that Riker would have become Captain if Picard didn't come back in Best of Both Worlds Part II. They wrote part I without knowing what would happen in Part II.
Also, in that episode where Riker had his transporter clone, they toyed with the idea of killing off Commander Riker and replacing him with Data. His clone would sit at conn then.
You're not telling me anything I don't know.

I was never a huge DS9 fan. Whenever I think of it I think of the Death of Superman comics, did start at the same time?
I remember watching it later, after the series had ended, and when it was good, it was really good. I couldn't name you most of the characters or arcs, I've only watched the series once, and still probably haven't seen all the episodes.. but that episode... that episode I've watched so many times. I remember coming across it at like 3am one late drunken night, and was like.. whoa.. whoa whoa whoa. That's when I started watching it.
I hated the ending of the series, but nothing Star Trek has ever ended well.
Not only is this one of the best DS9 episodes ever, it's one of the best TV episodes of any series. Sisko and Garek were both brilliant in it.
I always felt like DS9 was a little bit ahead of it's time. While other shows still generally campy at the time, DS9 was dark and gritty. In the pale moonlight was a fine example of this. One of the best Trek episodes of all time.

A lot of purists hate In the Pale Moonlight, but it is the highlight of the franchise by far.

Roddenberry would have hated it. I think a big reason that DS9 was so much more realistic is the fact that he died before the series got into full swing. The first season wasn't much different than TNG.
