Default Canadiens make a huge trade

The Habs are sending to the Flames:
Rene Bourque who will be a UFA at years end
Cory Sarich
and
Patrick Hornqvist (a good future player)
for
Pahlsson, Samuel (C) who gives us a great checking center to take a load off Toews.

Miettinen, Antti (RW) who will fill Bourque's void for this season and

Clark, Brett (D) who is top 4 capable Defenseman that will be a key for our PK.

With this trade, the Canadiens should contend for the championship once more. This move was made to WIN now...again!!!

I was going to say this as well. He is not a 'future good player' he is good right now!

I guess now I can trade with Cheese again as he now has some stuff I actually like!

Hornqvist was the center point of a deal when I brought Heatley in last season. I can completely understand why he is in this deal given the return.

I don't see how this one gets accepted, each one of the players the MTL gets is nowhere near as good as the guys going the other way.

This trade should have been accepted after all the harsh comments, cheese gets some assets to trade and the MTL GM learns the hard way but still has a TON of assets left.

Seriously guys. Taking a look at the ratings of all the players.
Clark is better ranked and has a higher DF rating than Sarich, not to mention is cheaper.
Mietennen and Hornqvist are equally ranked this year...no difference at all for the 2011/2012 year.
Pahlsson has a very high FO and df rating and is only ranked 2 pts lower than Bourque, not to mention almost everyone who talks to me wants him.
I also add 1.5M to the deal.
Besides the fact you guys are horny over Hornqvist where has the vaseline been applied?

Hornqvist is the most valuable asset in the deal by far.
Bourque is also younger, and arguably the 2nd most valuable asset.

Miettenen is not even in the NHL anymore. Pahlsson is aging and a pending UFA. Clark is even older.

Value wise it is a horrible deal for the Habs.

we cant look at deals based on age of a player or what the league "perceives" if the value of all the said players are basically "equal right now".
Why is age a factor or where they play if player values are equal? That seems to create an imbalance in trades.
Would you look at it the same if it was a 36 year old Yzerman?

Of course we have to look at age. They are all factors in deals - age, upside, contract, OVR, specific ratings.

Alex Kovalev, who I just traded, was a 65 OVR player. Does he have the same value of Sam Gagner who is also a 65 OVR? Of course not.

Thats not the point Grant.
I disagree with the decision, we took over a week to get to this and I think it is fair based on OVs, salaries etc. Age and where a player is based should have no base on the decision if it is a balanced deal.

I disagree - those are factors we always weigh. Everyone agrees this is a terrible deal for Montreal. If we accept it then we have to basically turn it back to being open season on new GMs again.
