So the install was yesterday. Took the tech about 3 hours.
I had a family dinner so haven't really played around with teh system yet.
One thing though is I miss being able to search a channel and skip to the next day a week to see what is on. Is this in fact a feature that's not available anymore or have i just not figuired it out yet.
Internet is alot faster.

You mean skipping a day ahead when you're on the guide? I believe it's the "next" button.

Ok, so how the heck do I pause on the upstairs TV and continue on teh downstairs TV? I assumed it was as simple as pressing pause on one and pla on the other.

Now you are just being needy! I would assume u pause it then go into your pvr recordings once you get to the second tv and hit play from there. I don't have my system yet so I may be way off with this one

That's how it works on mine. Play show on main TV, wife comes down and wants to watch something, pause show, go down to other TV, hit PVR button, select show and hit play.

I have been a Shaw customer for 15 years or so and I thought of switching to Optik. After reading many reviews of each system I cam across the Gateway. I really liked the $99 deal and called, but they said it was for new customers only. I was able to get the basic SD channels, plus all HD channels and internet for $94. Since I only watch HD channels this was great, and I lose channels 23-49. I am paying $115.95 currently for my cable and internet package.
The CSR said Shaw just announced the Gateway and 1 portal pricing was dropping to $348 as of Thursday, October 6th from $598. You can add it to your bill for $10 a month for 36 months. I had paid for my HDPVR so I can exchange that for the second portal.
So my bill is going down by $10 a month for 36 months and then will be $20 lower after that, and I get a better system. I'm pretty happy with that and the Shaw CSR was very helpful.

Really though, why not give those of us who actually bought the thing out of the gate and have been dealing with the bugs, a bit of a break? Slap a year off of our payments or something for being a good customer.
Yeah...who am I kidding...

For the same reason I had to cancel my account and open a new one just to take advantage of this promo costing Shaw hundreds of dollars more in expenses rather then just offering it to me up front.

I thought of doing this, but it seemed like a pain in order to save $5 a month. I'm normally quite vengeful out of principle on things like this, but October is a big TV month for me, so I don't want to miss out on things. If I was more proactive, or if it was in the summer, I probably would have done it.
I also don't use/need/want a home phone. I think the promo had that as well.

You should see the difference in the price of pop at Superstore. Those who want it when it's released have to pay $4 at the liquor store. Those who wait until all the bugs are out can get it for $1 at the regular store.

Can someone tell me the size of the unit? I want to build a shelf for it but need to know dimensions hoping it is less then 18 inches in length and 12 wide. Comparable to the 3400 moto box

Shaw is here trying to install it looks like he is struggling getting the gateway system to get all of my account information. It had been an awkward hour so far the guy isn't very chatty just plays on his phones all the time

Oh...you're not one of those hovering customers, are you? That's bound to produce awkwardness.
To break up the awkwardness, I suggest walking into the room wearing nothing but your wifes/girlfriends underwear on your head. That'll get the conversations rolling.
