Theres a balance that can be struck between operating out of a run-down building, and building a fancy new downtown office building. Perhaps something outside of the immediate downtown and a little lower key, or previously occupied.

Fiscal problems for the province should be easily addressed using a sales tax. The oil royalties should be invested for the future. Right now Albertans are just paying off their current needs from royalties that should be going to future generations.

Not again, more taxes! Fiscal problems can easily be addressed by reducing the transfer payments to Quebec subsidizing their daycare program or Maritimes subsidizing their EI.

Equalization payments do not involve wealthy provinces making payments to poor provinces
As an example, a wealthy citizen in New Brunswick, a so-called "have not" province, pays more into equalization than a poorer citizen in Alberta, a so-called "have" province. However, because of Alberta's greater population and wealth, the citizens of Alberta as a whole are net contributors to Equalization, while the citizens of New Brunswick are net receivers of Equalization payments.

Don't even bother. I've tried explaining how equalization works only to have people refusing to understand it.

I'm in the innovation and R&D side of things. I'm very interested to find out what she does in this regard.

He says Redford gives ample evidence and yet gives none himself - it is a poorly written Sun like article which is continually bashing Redford for what appears to be nothing the majority of the time, crediting her mothers death as being what win her the election.
At this point in time anything will be a positive change over the last years of Klein as well as Stelmach - and anyone who I have talked to that has worked with Redford has nothing but good things to say about her and her performance.

Anybody who promises change in a political campaign is just that. Maybe that was their intention from the beginning but pretty soon, they will become part of the system and the problem.
If I want to hear change, I'll listen to David Bowie instead. Not a knock on Redford, just my political view in general.

I just wanted to comment here rather than start a new thread...but the school boards (CBE in particular) shouldn't get a dime until they eliminate the fees that were recently downloaded onto parents: eliminating the family maximum, noon hour supervision, etc. should be revoked at once! Clearly they should be hiring teachers and reducing class sizes, but they shouldn't need to be told that...

I thought Mar was going to win this in a landslide. But now that Redford has won all you have to do is look at her acomplishments and career, it is extremely impressive. Hope she gets the support to make the changes needed to the shortage of teachers and Alberta health care.

Yeah...I'm also in that space as well (Alberta Innovates) I'll be quite interested to see what she does...and if Horner lands a spot in her cabinet.

Yeah, umm, I'm pretty sure that for all intents and purposes that if Alberta's citizens are net contributors to equalization, the effectively the province is paying into the program.

and yet.... she is about to be Premier...
and he is definitly NOT about to be premier......
we went through some sort of democratic process... ya think that the writer might remember that sometime. (right or wrong... the process is what makes the decision)
