Apple Magic Mouse/Keyboard
Has anyone tried this combo? They seem to be a bit pricey but I'm planning on getting an external monitor for my MacBook Pro and I'm looking for something that is a bit appealing to a minimalist's point of view. I will be mainly using it for my class projects (photoshop will probably be used extensively) and a bit of gaming. Seeing that both these products depend on bluetooth, it's a bit beneficial to my limited number of USB ports. I'm also liking the style of both, and they are both semi comfortable.
But are they really worth the price? Or are there better alternatives? (Wireless is preferred though).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I use them and love them. They look and function great.
edit: the magic trackpad is pretty sweet too, some prefer it over the mouse. I'd go try it at the Apple Store.
editedit: nm you said gaming, not the trackpad then

I wouldn't trade mine for anything. I have a keyboard hooked to my ps3, a mouse for my macbook pro and a mouse/keyboard for my imac.
I cannot say anything is better or worse since I never had the need to change these, i do know these look better then the rest though

I use that combo every day and it would take a lot to get me to change.
It didn't seem like such a huge expense to me after dropping $2000+ on a laptop...

The desktop wired and wireless keyboards don't seem anywhere near as good as the keyboards on the Macbooks. I think the scissor switches are somehow different. The Macbook keyboard keys press down quite evenly and easily with good feedback. The wired/wireless keyboard keys are stiffer and go down unevenly. Often, I will miss a keystroke because I hit the side of the key and it just sort of bent over instead of going down on the rubber membrane (that's what she said).

You need an Apple Keyboard if you want to operate the OS properly (you can get away with something else, but it's painful). I prefer the full size keyboard (wired), but that's just me. Performs just fine for everything I need.
A Magic Mouse is only useful if you use MagicPrefs: http://magicprefs.com/ - allows you to customize the mouse gestures to something that makes more sense then the default Lion ones.
If you want to game at all, I really recommend just getting a wired Logitech mouse. Driver support is pretty good and it's hard to beat Logitech mice right now. The Magic mouse is great for everything BUT gaming.

I like the wired keyboard better than the wireless. Just wish they had a wireless version with the num pad on the right (ie - a wireless version that mimics the wired)

I have this set up at work and I quite like it, but one word of caution, the magic mouse is a freaking battery hog. Seems like I'm replacing the batteries every 6-8 weeks in this thing.
I've used other wireless mice that'll chew through one set a year, but the magic mouse just seems to need a fresh set every 2 months. Rechargeable would be an option obviously, but my workflow still get's interrupted to often by a dead mouse.

That's with the current Apple Wireless keyboard?
I haven't noticed this... you sure you don't just have a lemon?

I made the switch after years of wanting to throw the mighty mouse through a window because the stupid trackball would get stuck. I don't regret it, though I wish it was wired... and I miss the 'trackball button' so I had to resort to hot corners, and it seems to be alright... though it's a lot heavier and smaller than the mighty mouse... anything is better than a trackpad IMO...

I can't stand how quickly the Magic Mouse chews through batteries. I haven't looked at the bluetooth keyboard as a result. I did however just buy a Logitech K750 for Mac that is solar powered. It's been getting some fantastic reviews, I'm excited for it to finally arrive!

Alright, so I just purchased the Apple Magic mouse today to give it a try... I have to say that the aesthetics are amazingly slick and it is eye candy beside my MBP. Although, the mouse is extremely low riding and it gets uncomfortable at times. The gestures feature is pretty interesting as well to say the least. I haven't been able to test it on boot camp yet... Although I doubt that the mouse will work with windows.
I might consider getting the Razer Orochi instead as it can be both wired AND bluetooth. ($79)
I'll be getting the keyboard sometime this weekend and I'll try that out a well.

Reason: memory express has it for 79!

Boot camp has drivers for it. It works fine but it's not quite the same experience.
