Turning point in the game was when the "japanese" guy punched the canadian kicker in the head whle running by, not even looking at the ball and they lost him for the game.

Should be winning this handily with all the missed kicks, but at least they're back in it.

Rough game - great result for canada though, pretty likely clnched 3rd and got automatic qualification for the next WC

"Japan has let it slip and Canada must be happy"...and "I feel slightly deflated myself (about Japan losing)." If that's not bias, don't know what is.
Give me a break...Canada makes one of those conversions missed, and it was long over. Japan did nothing in the the second half other then a junk penalty thanks to an undisciplined play. Canada dominated possesion in second half in Japan's end and didn't get rewarded well enough...and then those missed kicks.

Considering Japan has never won a World Cup match after about 20 tries, that was their chance to beat an established nation and they let it slip away. The commentator is not wrong.

Why was Canada not more focused on getting that last kick back after tying the game up?
Japan got it and could of ended up kicking it through the uprights for the win.

Have to hope that the French don't stink it up and let Tonga get a couple bonus points while still losing.
Only way is if Tonga wins, or, loses by less than 7 but also scores 4 tries, does Tonga leapfrong Canada.

That was a fun game to watch! Its disappointing that the Canadians couldn't make more kicks and get the win, but they did well to play desperate and squeak out the tie. DTH Van der Merwe was great for Canada and he made some excellent runs. The Canadian defence could've been better, but they held up when it mattered most. Pretty clearly though the handling errors were a problem for them; Canada was in position a number of times only to knock the ball forward and let Japan off the hook. It was clearly not their best effort in that regard.
There were five CPers at Petes tonight and a few tables of rugby fans. Not bad for 10pm Monday night really. As always, Petes was thrilled to see us! Highlight of the night was probably when troutman told the waitress it was a double-header!

They won a game way back in 1991 against Zimbabwe.

Entertaining game (or as the Aussie commentator called it - "spicy?"). Too bad Pritchard got concussed, or Canada might have made more kicks and won the game. I thought the bearded-one fumbled the ball a few too many times. Number nine on Japan deserved an ass-kicking - little feller always sticking his nose in and yapping.
#13 for Canada was outstanding.
Rugby seems to have looser eligibility rules than FIFA. I counted maybe 4 Japanese players on that team. Is anyone that has tried sushi once in their life eligible to play for Japan?
Last night I dreamt I was in New Zealand, and Canada had too many injuries, and being the only Canadian citizen available, I was called into duty. I knocked on the ball after my first ruck, but next time I faked a pass to the right, then ran up the middle untouched for the winning points. Locke was on the team too. We sang Oh Canada, after upsetting the Springboks.

Maybe they should have a convert kicking competition to find a winner.

Is it because most of the Japanese team is Australian?

That doesn't really count

As for the Japanese players, a person only has to live in Japan for 36 months!

Canada should be recruiting better!
