Derek Lowe you washed up bum please just retire already even though you have 1 year left on your contract. If Atlanta makes the postseason washed up bum better not be part of the rotation.

All tied up
Lester pooped the bed in his last start when the Sox needed him to step up, hopefully he can redeem himself this afternoon.

Great to see that the Rays won tonight but it seems that it may be too little too late.
Also shocking to see the Giants and their march to multiple championships might be beat out by the mighty Diamondbacks.
I assumed with the brilliant Sabean as GM they were a shoe-in for the next 10-12 World Series championships.

How is it too late? The Rays are 3 games back of BoSox for the wildcard. They are playing better than Boston in the last 10 games. If anything, it is a toss-up to who gets the wc. My money is on the younger energetic Rays.

I don't think it is impossible for the Rays to catch them but with 10 games left and Boston with half those games against Baltimore I think it will be tough for the Rays to make-up those even if they are playing great.

Two games now. Boston is pretty beat up too as Youkilis is pretty much done, Gonzalez is 75% if that, plus their starting staff is a total patch job. Rays might make this interesting yet.

While the Braves' lead is certainly more comfortable than Boston's in the AL, it is not insurmountable given that they play their next six games on the road (three each at Florida and Washington) before finishing with three games against the vaunted Phillies.

Uh oh, the BoSox are not playing well but the O's have also improved their bats and pitching since the 2nd half...it will be an interesting 9 games or so left.

Mariano Rivera becomes the all-time Saves leader with #602 today!! It was funny watching the crowd cheer Nick Swisher grounding into a double play in the bottom of the 8th to ensure Mo would enter the game. A classy and humble man who is now unquestionably the greatest closer of all time!!

It is funny how he has been a closer for about 14 yrs and his bread and butter pitch is the cut-fastball. With lots of late movement in the mid 90s and while everyone knows what he is going to throw each time they come up to the plate, not many have much success at hitting that pitch well. Just amazing.

Cheering for SF. Just think if the owners of SF had made that trade with the Jays-Lincecum for Rios.

I think the rumour was the Giants may have dangled Lincecum with the plan of swapping in Cain at the last minute after talks had progressed, but either way it is pretty much agreed that the Giants were never going to move Lincecum for Rios.

Sweet lord - Matt Cain is exactly what the Blue Jays need right now. A young, projected ace of the staff. Guy has electric stuff, and if anywhere other than behind Lincecum, he would be well known by now.

Yeah that decision sure looks bad.
But in hindsight, I would've hated JP even more if he made that trade.
Rios was on the cusp of becoming elite and particiapted in the HR derby. He was going to be our future superstar and I really don't know how he declined that much. I would've been upset if he was moved for a pitcher who most scouts pegged him in as a future Mark Prior with injury issues.
At that time we also had an elite rotation of Halladay-Burnette-McGowan-Litsch-Marcum. It would've made no sense to move an all star RFer for an unknown commodity.
