Mayweather's record already is tarnished until he fights Pacquaio. Remaining undefeated doesn't mean anything if you aren't willing to go up against your best competition.
Back to the OP - Ortiz is an idiot and Mayweather did what he had to. That said, it is an unfortunate end no matter how you look at it.
Had Mayweather lost the fight, I could see him taking on Pac-Man as his perfect record was now gone. But since he won, I really doubt he will ever chance a fight with Manny and the potential risk of tarnishing his record.
As if his record actually means dick all (to anyone except himself of course). He could go 100-0 fighting bums like he has or he could actually validate his claims and fight Manny.
FM is a chump. A extremely wealthy chump, but he should have been deducted 2 pts for that garbage and Ortiz should been given 5min to clear his head. Just like when a fighter is k'od after the bell. Cortez was in on it if you asked me. He acted like he was unaware what Mayweather did.
Nah, watching two sweaty, half naked guys rolling around in the reverse 69 position... I'll leave that to you. I could maybe get past that part... if MMA wasn't perhaps the douchiest collection of human beings on the planet. MMA events look like god vomited an Ed Hardy catalogue onto a tattoo parlour, in a Trailer Park.
Those types of people you just described are posers... the REAL MMA fighters I have met are probably the most friendly and easy going people..

I see your point but it was a legal ko. Ref admit to saying fight on. Not the way anyone wanted the fight to go but with Ortiz camp complaining non stop about Floyd being dirty you thinknhe would have been protecting himself. He already apologized and even kissed Floyd. Move on and be ready to fight.

I actually liked it back in the mid 90's when it debuted, and it was a no holds barred brawl. That was awesome. More of a bar room brawl sort of feel to it. If I recall, it was simply no eye gouging, no nut shots.... everything else was fair game.
I think this proves that you have never watched MMA, since the early events had no bar room brawl action at all. They were well organized fights which were usually very one sided for the Gracie family. They may have marketed themselves as a brawl, but it was not close. Nut shots were certainly fair game!
And as far as "rudimentary general knowledge", do you even know what that term means?..... We are not talking about string theory here, it is 2 guys fighting in an Octogan shaped ring, until one quits, or submits. That, is "Rudimentary, general knowledge" About as dumbed down as it can can get. I think it can be pretty much said, you could learn "Rudimentary, general knowledge" about any sport reading Wikipedia articles for an hour.[/QUOTE]
It is two professional fighters in the ring, you are dumbing down a sport that takes more training than possibly any other sport. If you don't like it, fine. Insulting it makes people look silly.
This whole boxing vs MMA thing is bullcrap. Boxing fans need to get over the fact MMA is popular now, it's a fantastic sport, and is still continuing to grow. Boxing is an amazing sport, that is crumbling under a corrupt system, lead by guys like Bob Abrum. Amateur boxing is amazing, I rarely watch pro boxing nowadays.
Boxing fans, seriously, get over it. It's amazing how it's mostly boxing fans who will beat down the sport of MMA, don't be scared guys. There is room for both sports, it's a shame the way corruption has almost ruined such a great sport at the professional level.
MMA is a beautiful sport to watch, you take elements from all kinds of combat sports and throw them together, it's fantastic.

While MMA certainly has its warts, and I wouldn't call it a beautiful sport by any stretch, its almost sad to watch the slow decay of professional boxing, which has gone from one of the greatest sports in the world to a punchline of a very old very sad joke.
At one time, something like this incident would have put front page headlines around the world, now nobody really cares anymore.

We don't have to "get over" anything. We don't like it. No one is saying you can't like it.
Jim Lampley will be on Jim Rome this morning.

MMA is full of just as much politics and corruption as boxing. You're kidding yourself if you think otherwise.
I think that no matter whether you are a Mayweather fan or not we can all agree that it would've been awesome if Merchant dropped him with a short right!

I wouldn't go so far as to say just as much as boxing, there's decade worth of corruption in boxing. It's in every corner of the sport. MMA will likely get there, fight sports attract that element, but boxing has it beat based solely on the amount of time it's had to turn itself filthy.

How is Bob Arum ruining boxing? out of all the shady promoters there are in boxing i think you singled out the wrong guy.
Amateur boxing is crap and if you are talking about corruption in the sport, that is where you start.
Boxing has actually been pretty good this year with the friday nite fights and the shobox super middleweight tourney. For sure it's not half as good as the 70's and 80s and in large part it's because there are too many belts out there. Which is something casual boxing fans should realize nowadays. BELTS MEANS NOTHING ANYMORE. (except to Michael Buffer's announcing)
and i'm not jealous in any way shape or form of MMA. It can surpass boxing, like WWF can surpass boxing. It's just not my cup of tea so i will never watch it, let alone pay money for it.

hahhaa. well we obviously do? when is the last time a discussion on boxing went to a page 2? and in the off topic forum even! haha
Re-watching the Merchant/Mayweather thing it was totally planned by Mayweather. he was giving and given eye signals from his promoter before he started the tirade.
He is playing this villain thing to the max. Which is pretty smart, too bad his style is so boring that people won't continue to pay to watch him lose.
It's not the first time Merchant and Mayweather have gone at each other.

I have to dis agree.
1st, I havent started paying to watch him lose because he hasn't
2nd I think that when/if he does lose, he will be done in the sport and no longer fight so no body has to watch him lose on the regular.
I want the Floyd Manni fight more than anyone. Floyd brought up some great points he has not brought up before at his post fight conference.
//Off the floyd/manni talk some interesting things to note:
- Floyd makes at least 70 mill for every fight and quietly went on to say "who knows it might be 90". We all know floyd gives 50 cent a large chunk of money to bet for him.
- Floyd keeps 100% revenue as he is his own boss and Floyd can wake up and say I want to fight and the fight happens.
- Other fighters lose at least 30% to their promoters/boss and if they want to fight they are told when they have to fight.
- Floyd is not who so many of you really think he is. In one of his last 24/7s he handed out food to the homeless. People complained that it was boring so he amps it up and does the "TV" floyd for ratings. He claimed he has the largest sports deal in history right now and it is because he does things right.
Whether you like it or not, I bet Floyd is totally different off Camera. He knows the cocky floyd sells so runs with it while the red light is on.
Floyds up bringing was not pretty. Victor tried to win fans off of playing the "came from nothing". Floyd could have done the same but chose a different route.
Lastly, for those who follow Manni closely, (this isnt said as a debate but I dont follow him and want to know)
Is 100% of the pressure from media and questions on Floyd or has Manni said he will fight him at anytime. And when he said it as he been persistant on the fact or was it just a statement during 1 of 100 interviews.
I do not understand why we do not hear more of Manni challenging Floyd in the media. The way the media portrays that superfight is as if Manni is challenging every month. (He might be and I don't know hence me asking).
