Blockbuster had a chance years ago to join with Netflix, and instead laughed them out of the meeting. Who's laughing now...I don't feel sorry for them one bit and honestly it's about time.

And in other news, Netflix users can say buh-bye to Sony and Disney releases in February. No idea if this would impact Canadians, but I thought it was interesting:

"Starz Entertainment has ended contract renewal negotiations with Netflix. When the agreement expires on February 28, 2012, Starz will cease to distribute its content on the Netflix streaming platform. This decision is a result of our strategy to protect the premium nature of our brand by preserving the appropriate pricing and packaging of our exclusive and highly valuable content. With our current studio rights and growing original programming presence, the network is in an excellent position to evaluate new opportunities and expand its overall business."

If you can show me that it's illegal then I'll bite my tongue, but in my research I have yet found a definitive answer saying illegal, whereas everywhere I go all I see is legal - including Canadian sites.

I signed up for the Canadian service. Although i have yet to use it with my main tv, through my iPad, iPhone and iPod I just turned on the VPN and the US selections came up. Never had to register on the US site.

I also found that that I could start the movie with the VPN and then just turn it off and it would/will run off my own ip. Which, with extreme shaw, is a much faster stream.

Content that is not available in Canada, is not available due to copyright issues. ie the people who made/own/distributed it don't want to/can't distribute it here for whatever reason.

By definition, bypassing copyright is illegal. Some exceptions, like format shifting for personal use do apply, of course.

Therefore, bypassing broadcast restrictions is illegal.

Again, I will repeat that I am not judging you for doing so, and if I felt it was worth the time to do it I might as well, but for you to claim it is totally legal is incorrect. The only reason I even mentioned it is that anyone taking your declaration of "completely legal" as factual, might end up doing something they normally wouldn't if they understood the situation.

Bottom line is that it is not much different than tormenting a show.
