Honestly, I have dealt with alot of personal battles (depression) in the last 10 years. After getting some great help over the last year, I've had enough of the mental abuse that goes on there, and ready to get out. Being entrenched with depression, it's easy to stay in a bad situation. It seems to difficult to get out and find something better, because in the back of your mind, you always think you are not good enough.
But this thread is supposed to be happier. Just looking for some fun, outrageous ideas or stories. I'm most likely not going to go out in a blaze of glory. Let's keep it fun.

Okay, the part about depression is true, but you still don't need to burn bridges.
I can understand and appreciate the depression thing. I look at my relationship with my wife and am finally coming to terms that we need to have a talk and decide if we want to stay together, work towards fixing our issues instead of ignoring them, or call it quits. It's something that has been eating at me for a few years, but never acted on.

Go nail the bosses daughter.
Or Son. One up them by showing equal opportunity on the way out as well.

Nail the bosses wife.
If the employer has been the ass, stick it to him directly. Don't do something silly at work that is just going to hurt the other employees. Refusing to give notice falls under this category IMO.

Sneak into his unlocked house in the middle of the night and abduct his three year old son. This will freak him and his family out along with his whole community.
Four days later, sneak back into his house in the middle of the night and return his son.

Part of the problem of giving notice to a dick boss is he'll likely get rid of you before you get to finish your period of notice and not pay you for those days.

Last time I checked with the Alberta Labour Laws, if you're fired after you give notice, they have to pay you for the remaining time.
Even if they do fire you before your notice is up, don't pay you, and you don't want to take it to court, I'd still give the 2 weeks notice and take my chances. Dick employer or not, I don't feel the need to be a dick employee.
Long story short, put in your notice, then nail the boss' daughter.
If you do plan on 'going out with a bang', watch out for legal reprocussions. There was a rather disgruntled individual years ago who decided to trip the emergency shutdown for the plant after he told the boss that he's quitting. Years of legal battles ensued and I have my doubts they ended well.
As funny as screwing everything to the walls may be, remember that if you're employer really wants to be vindictive he could go after you for vandalism.
Glad you got some issues solved and are getting rid of a problem, but it's probably best to just walk away, put that part of the last 8 years behind you and enjoy Costa Rica.
Now, onto the lighter stuff.
Back in college I worked at a fast food chain in the evenings. On my boss' last day we decided to mess with customers all night. I came up with some story about the POS network being down, so our registers could only handle one item at a time. We gave them the total for everything, but they had to pay first, drive around for each individual item and we'd give them thier change on the last drive around. Most people were somewhat reluctant but we managed to convince most of them to. The most amusing one was a car with 6 teenagers who did 20 laps for frosties and cheeseburgers. My boss finally had to quit serving them at the window and go into the office because he was laughing so hard.

Who cares? grow up. You will only screw over your fellow co- workers. The "awful owners" are not going to care what happens, nor will it bother them in any way.

When I was about 24, I worked in pretty much the worst job ever, and didn't give any notice when I quit because like you I swore I would never return. Fast forward to 2 years ago - the economy is in the toilet and I am trying to get into my new field and no one is hiring me.
I head down to the plant and put in my application. All the HR guys I knew from the floor when I was working and the first thing they did was pull my HR file. It was not good. It took me over a month to even get an interview, where I had to explain to them how this time it would be different. 2 months after I first walked back in the door, I was working for them again. Had I left on better terms it would have taken a week or so.
That's not something you ever want to deal with.
Compare that to today, and I gave my boss notice last week that I would be quitting NEXT SUMMER. Of course it pretty much is the best place to work.

As much as people think that quitting with an impact is cool and that they don't need references or to leave on a positive note, I've found that Calgary is a very small community and when you least expect it you run into somebody that you screwed or pranked and not only do you end up paying, but your prank isn't that funny any more.
Never take a chance with your career. If your leaving at the end of the month, give your notice tomorrow. Get paid whether they keep you or not and walk away with dignity.
Then dynamite his car.

Leave professionally. Just because they're low class doesn't mean you have to be.

Norm - here's the best revenge of all. Give notice, work hard, and walk away with your head high. In a couple of months, send them a "Thanks for the Employment" postcard from Costa Rica.
Live the dream buddy, live the dream.

Life's too short for me not to live vicariously through an anonymous internet poster. I say go out with a bang and report back to us. Start a 2 week escalation of insubordination. Bring a gameboy to work. Hire a strip-o-gram for yourself. Tell your supervisor you're "just not feeling it today" and go home. Start doing a safety audit of all of the unsafe practices and environmental contraventions of the work site and call them in. I'm sure there are more you can think of.
