Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread, but has anybody tried the "slow" carb diet from the book "Four Hour Body"?

I've been utilizing it for a little over three weeks and have gone from 212 lbs down to 200 lbs.

I also lost 3.5 inches off my belly, 3.0 inches off my waist and 1.5 inches off my hips.

I wish I would have done a body fat measurement prior to starting.

I was EXTREMELY lucky. After losing 170 pounds I have very little loose skin. I have some, but not as much as most others that have lost that amount. In talking to other people this is what factors into whether the skin snaps into place:
1) Age - the younger you are, the more elastic your skin is
2) How you lost the weight - I increased my exercise more than reduced my calories
3) Type of exercise - throughout my weight loss I was doing "boot camps" and "cardio kickboxing", both involved working the core

-=-=-=-=-=-

Now when I was down in Milwaukee last month with other weight loss award winners, we got talking about loose skin. These people are already at the stage where they have lots of loose skin and can't go back and change what they did for their weight loss. So the women are having surgery for a "full body lift" and some of the men are getting tummy tucks. It's the only solution after the fact. Now, I was sitting at the table for "Eastern Canada" where people were telling me that most provinces will cover the surgery IF and ONLY IF there is some medical health risk to the skin; they won't do it if it is only cosmetic. So, for example, a fellow from Newfoundland said that he's gotten rashes and infections between the folds of skin.

Doing weight work might help tighten up the area though.

Yep, 3 days a week.

I would think that would be true for my arms and legs, but I'm not so sure about my belly/stomach. Would love to be proven wrong, however.

@Devils'Advocate

Thanks for the info and advice. I have been investigating a more intense core workout, and I think I might get to that this week. I'm 27, so being younger will help. I reduced my calories as much as I increased my activity level. I would really rather not opt for surgery, but will if I absolutely have to.

Hey guys!

I have been going to the gym for the last 2 months or so and am starting to see results. I haven't been going about my workout entirely properly but I don't think it did any harm.

I am currently doing 20 mins cardio on recumbent bike and 40+ minutes weight training on machines (Lat pull down, vertical row, bench press, pec deck, shoulder press, leg press). I have started out at twice a week but I am going to start going five days a week starting Monday.

I have been doing some reading this weekend and discovered I have been doing far too many reps at too low weight (I was doing 50+ reps/set on some machines).

So I have read in multiple places 15 reps/set should be max and you should ensure your muscles are fatigued by the last rep.

I am a gym noob. My goals are weight loss, strengthening my upper body, and endurance.

Any tips from the veterans to hone my workout? Should I do a session with a personal trainer?

As of today, now down 12 pounds toward my goal of losing 30. It's been relatively quick - so far 5 weeks. Tracking everything you eat really makes all the difference.

Most of my exercise has been long bike rides. Little bit of swimming. Thinking of hitting the weights in a serious way soon.

Weighed my highest ever last winter at 206 and am currently sitting at 183. Change in diet and portion control has been what's done it for me.

My wife and I also did the Body by Vi 90 Day Challenge.
I lost 37 pounds during my first 90 days while she lost 20.
No exercise whatsoever.
We started promoting it and qualified for a free BMW and have already helped 6 people in our team get one too, on top of making 1-3+ k/month.

Not sure why so many people waste time in a gym if they are trying to lose weight.
Anyone who knows anything about the subject will tell you that to lose weight, 80% of your focus needs to be on diet while only 20 % should be on exercise.

That's why the 90 day Challenge works so well.
67,000 NEW people joined last month alone.
20th consecutive month of double digit growth.
Just officially launched in Canada 3 days ago too so it's about to go even more viral than it has up to this point.

Hulk Hogan, Roy Jones Jr, Dennis Rodman, multiple UFC/MMA fighters, NFL players, 6 members of the Stamps as of last weeks, almost the entire BC Lions team, some Eskies, numerous Alouettes, and even the first Captain of the Calgary Flames, Brad Marsh, as well as TONS of fitness professionals and other athletes are ALL promoting this Challenge.

I was the first person west of Ontario to do this, and have helped hundreds transform their lives and body... so if you want anymore info, or just want me to mail you a sample so you can see what all the fuss is about, shoot me a PM and I would LOVE to help you reach your goals.

Congrats to everyone who have posted their results on this thread. Always awesome to see people making changes to their health, no matter how its done

Awesome job. I'm thinking you must be quite tall (6'2"+) as you look quite slim for 219 pounds.

I can't believe how much younger everyone on here looks after they've lost a bunch of weight. That's a pretty nice side effect.

I wear size S shirts and have a waist size that ranges somewhere between 30-32, so is this possibly just added muscle mass while staying mostly lean? I don't feel like I'm overweight or anything but my BMI puts me in the just barely overweight category. I thought it might be good to get down to the 155-160 range but it just doesn't seem to be happening.
Yeah so it looks like my range has only dropped down a couple of pounds. I'm sitting between 163 and 166 for the most part, but my body fat % is down to around 14% (not entirely sure where it started but I can tell my face is a bit thinner and my stomach feels firmer). My resting heart rate is somewhere between 55-60 bpm. Feeling much healthier as a whole and I have a lot more energy throughout the day. Wouldn't mind getting my body fat in the 8-12% range but I realize that can be pretty tricky.

Are you seriously suggesting exercise is bad for losing weight?

It's clear this challenge hasn't actually taught you anything about losing weight. Without education (and exercise for that matter), relapse is imminent.
