PC Leadership Race- Redford wins.
The first vote is this Saturday and things should be interesting. I would doubt that there is a majority this weekend.
Here's a quick primer on the candidates (in the likely event that you haven't heard of them all!). http://ipolitics.ca/2011/08/18/the-r...ership-primer/
For a mere $5 you to can cast a ballot for your choice as the next premier of the province!
My best guess is that Alison Redford wins this on the second ballot (which echoes the sentiment of another poster here who reiterated that on twitter tonight). Gary Mar is clearly the favorite at this point but apparently Morton has sold sold a lot of memberships. For political junkies it will be an interesting week or two!

I am pulling for Mar, but then again I don't know a ton about Redford (or a couple others for that matter). I might have to look into her a bit.

I like Redford but I'm not sure she can win on a second ballot - I think she alienated too many party loyalists so my guess is she won't be the second choice for most people who don't vote for her the first time around.

I went to a luncheon with 3 of the 6 candidates (Mar, Horner and Griffiths). Of those three, I would give the edge to Mar mostly based on his experience.

Might be worth getting a membership just to hijack their poll.

I am curious why Ted Morton keeps phoning me. I've never been a member of the AB tories, and am currently carrying a WRA card. I am tempted to spend $5 to throw a vote Redford's way...

How do they get the numbers? Do all the politicians have access to the voters lists? I got called twice by the Morton machines in the last 2 weeks

I am hoping for Morton to get a little fiscal conservatism back to the PC.
I cant justify the $5 to pay to vote if I am going to vote WRA in the next election.
Marr I think would easily be best for the cities but he is related to one of the most inept city councilors in Calgary.

Morton needs a slap upside the head for phone-spamming me every few days. It's basic marketing and anybody who thinks the cold-call does more good than bad is not somebody I want making important decisions in anything. I hope he's happy because he's annoyed me to the point I'm going to vote against him in an election I otherwise wouldn't have participated in.

I am a WAP supporter but my money is on Doug Horner to pull an upset in the second round. Redford, Mar and Morton are from southern Alberta so if Horner makes it through the first round I think he has a shot of splitting the southern vote and pulling a Stelmach.

Pulling a Stelmach - let's all pray that doesn't happen. When an unknown like that has an opportunity to take it all because of infighting, that's rarely a good thing.

If Mar wins and he probably will just by name recognition, then we'll have an Asian as premier and an Arab as mayor. The good thing is this will forever wash away the moniker that Alberta is a red neck country.

You can put on a new coat of paint but getting rid of the institutional racism is still hard in Alberta.
