The kicker with the line/bane/muta thing is the cost of all of your units. Lings are dirt cheap, whereas banelings and mutas are considerably more expensive. So in order to come out ahead you need to make sure your expensive units are protected/do their intended task.

If 5 marines take out 1 muta and a couple banelings, the terran is coming out ahead on that encounter, even if it feels like a win for you. Upgraded marines absolutely shred mutas, especially with stim pack.

If you are Zerg against terran and you see marines, don't get Mutas. We're hoping you do that because then your army is so cost ineffective you get rolled.

Baneling/ling infest.

Also keep some infestors in the back of your army to throw up fungal growth. 2 shots of fungal growth can kill a big ball of rines. Pretty sure it disables the medivacs too. Try to mind control some tanks/thors/bcs too if you can. I'm terrible with zerg, but have won a lot of games with infestors. Also great for sneaking into enemy bases to just infested terran the hell out of their econ.

Apparently they are nerfing Infestors with the next patch to make it so they can't mindcontrol massive units (Thors, Collosus, Ultralisk).

Too bad - I was enjoying the rise of the infestor. Now all a Terran needs to do to completely counter a zerg is build marines and thors and attack move our base. Unless the zerg is aware enough to build a crap ton of roaches, it's a guaranteed game over.

Yeah the infestor nerf will kind of suck, but really infestors are a support unit, shouldn't be a main unit..I just wish they'd beef up the core units a bit, especially the Hydra.
If you let them mass thors without scouting, its sorta your fault too Broodlord/roach counter thors pretty good.

Honestly though, I really don't think anything counters upgraded marine/thor/medivac. Obviously if poorly controlled it can be beaten, but if I can get 3/3 marines with combat shields and stimpack, with 5 thors and a few medivacs it is 96% of the time lights out.

They're nerfing Infestors? Wow... zerg keep getting owned by Blizzard time and time again lol. Didn't they already nerf the ultralisk to the point of being nearly useless? I feel bad for zerg players.

Ultralisk was never useful, they've been trying to change that.

Ultra, Hydra, Corruptor (for the most part) are all pretty useless. Ling, Roach, Mutas and Infestors (for now) are the only zerg units worth getting in most games (brood lords in late game are good though).

They used to do splash damage, and would own anything even in close proximity to them. Once that was eliminated, the ultralisk went from being super powerful against armoured units and smaller ground units to being totally useless.

They were always useless if forced into a choke point. Expensive ground beetles.

Ultras still do splash damage.

Thank goodness for infestor nerf. It was way too powerful against toss especially since the toss units are only useful in a large ball.

No, protoss just never micro their units since they can still win in a large ball.

You can't micro against infestors. All they have to do is chain fungal.

When it first came out, three marines with stim and a medivac could stim and kite three or four and grind them down. It was lulzy.

They they changed their speed... still useless.
Changed their cost... still useless
lower build time... still useless.

A late unit that needs to be in melee range when there is any number of things that can roflpwn it from a distance? GG zerg!

Not a personal attack or anything, but if I started with my ling/bane/muta in a ball on one hotkey, and threw it into tanks, or thors, or collosus, I would lose everything and kill nothing. Same if terran had a bunch of marines in a big ball and walzed them into banelings or a tank line or whatever...yet protoss wants to just ball up and have no unit spread, no micro, tactics or anything...just death ball up and a-move to win...

Also, would anyone be interested in a mini tournament? Even if we can get 8 people we could do a double elimination bracket (maybe with pool play before)...if there's interest it shouldn't be too hard to set up!

Not accurate. I could a-move a ball of marines into banelings and still win.
