Honestly, as a voter who pays tax dollars my opinion of that ugly bridge is just as valid as yours.
I'm not saying your opinion isn't valid, of course it is. But you've made it known, numerous times, over and over, getting less witty and inspiring less awe each time.
Not saying what you have to say isn't valid, just that you've made the same point over again.
The bridge doesn't inspire me or fill me with awe either, I don't know if bridge has ever done either of those things to be ever.
I'm not keen on the glass. It may be better in the winter but as a transit rider, I've seen lots of vandalized glass and plastic. I have no idea how thick it is and how close you can get to it, but it's just a thought.

If we worried about things getting vandalized we shouldn't build anything, it's not a valid argument.

I see your point, but it's a bit of an oversimplification. Some things are easier to vandalize than others. That should be a consideration. An appropriately weighted consideration, but a consideration nonetheless.

The lowest corner of the glass that you can see (which is the lowest the glass will go on the structure, is probably 6' or more above the bridge deck, and you'd also have to lean out over the railing to reach it.
Also, it would likely be built strong enough to withstand some fair sized hail, and on such a large piece of glass, that means the glass is pretty strong, and would be hard to break by a vandal.
BTW Does anyone remember where that clip of Norm MacDonald on the Daily show is? The one where he talks about canadian politics and boring they are, and how we all care about bridges too much?
Edit: Found it. Watch it, it's hilarious.
