Empire Strikes back - Star Destroyer is taken out by two shots from the giant nipple cannon. Executor tractor beam has a specific range of 100 ft to 120 ft. Because the Falcon was certainly in range. Imperial rifle sight design still terrible.
Well that was a planetary defense Ion cannon, used to disable ships and not destroy them.
Oh god I'm a nerd.

The movie also doesn't show Lando flying inside Executor and firing missles in the docking bay. Something that was only brought up later.
Yeah the Empire had bad engineers. Palatine repeatedly executed the designer of the Death Star! Fear probably doesn't inspire the best design decisions. I believe Bevel Lemelisk was revived/cloned 6 or 7 times by the Emperor to continue designing the second Death Star.
Also, an invincible bad guy is certainly not good for Hollywood storytelling. The books had more leeway to make things more "normal" I guess you could say.
I just finished watching all 3 Plinkett reviews of the prequel movies and forgot how bad they actually were. I never thought Phantom Menace was so bad, but I only saw it when it first came out (when I was young) and had real no memory of Episodes 4-6. I still haven't seen Episode 1 in about 10 years and will never watch it again. I always hated Episode 2 and thought Episode 3 was mediocre at best (but was annoyed at how dumb Anakin was, which is really just terrible story writing).
I really want to get the blu-rays (for ep's 4-6), but I have read everything that Lucas has changed in them and he just completely sodomized them.
The only versions I have are the Special Edition DVD's, I've never seen the originals.
I liked the ending, and the EU books pick up right afterwards (Truce at Bakura) and things are definitely shaky for the Rebels after the battle.
I still love ROTJ just for the epic space battle, I still think it is the best one put on film.
Agreed. It's much more fun and engaging visually that the one at the start of RotS. That one seemed like a big navy battle, and had those stupid droid things climbing all over Obi-Wan and Anakin. Not that swarm of Tie Fighters that the Falcon had to fly through.
21, never mind, I looked at my DVD's and apparently they have the theatrical release on Disc 2. I think I'll watch them this week end, not doing anything else.

What a difference 4 years makes I suppose. Han shot first!

I guess being a huge fan of naval history thats what I liked about ROTS, you felt the power of the bigger ships as they tore into each other. You never got the sense of that power from the Star Destroyers in the OT because you never really saw them tearing into another ship.
When the two ships in ROTS were passing side by side and unleashed broad sides and you saw that both ships were clearly dying was great.
